Power Steering Questions

Greetings, I own a 2003 E320 Base model with the RWD sedan. I've been having this power steering issues ever since the newly rebuilt rack & pinion replaced in this car. The steering act normal light to turn and heavy during the freeway driving. About 3 months later, the steering starting to stiff up and very heavy to steering and for parallel parking and it went back to normal again after 2-3 weeks. No leaks. Anyone have clock spring R&R DIY tips to share?

I am going to replacing my clock spring this evening and I was wondering if anyone can provide me some tips. I tried searching for a pictorial DIY with no luck. I found the DIY for steering wheel removal and it seems pretty straightforward. After the wheel is off is the clock spring sitting right there? Looking at the new part there appears to be only 2 small screws that mount it in place? Any tips or potential pitfalls I need to look out for? Or is it easy enough it needs no DIY once you... Anyone have clock spring R&R DIY tips to share?

Hurricane Flooded floor

Parked in parking garage during hurricane Ida and thought safe. 24 hours later got car and found 2" water in passenger floor. Guess has a leak! Pulled out carpets and pads front and back. Not sure if need to remove seat. Shop vac removed water and fan on that side for 24 hours. Now sitting in sun. Ideas on anything else to do? Any suggestions on sourcing pads? Will clean carpets.

Strange sound

My e350 has a sound from underneath that sounds like the bass on a radio. Anyone have an idea what this could mean? I've had the motor mounts changed. Did not solve the issue.

Cruise Control

Hello everyone! I have a haunted 1982 380dl. After many hours of diagnosis and parts replacement, my mechanic has given up on making my cruise control work as it should. I try to activate it every time I drive the car and occasionally it functions. Last Friday I drove the car and made a few stops in very hot conditions. Halfway through my trip it started working. The car was very hot, around 100 degrees C. Since then, in cooler conditions it doesn't work. Any ideas as to what I should look for?

Codes P0172 P0175

The check engine light came on 2 days ago i hooked the scanner and got this P172 P175 which it says bank 1 and bank 2 running rich.I cleared the codes drove today and when i got home i put the scanner again and it said pending codes the same codes again but the check engine light wasnt on.Its 2004 ML350 and the engine runs and drives perfectly fine what could it be that its throwing this codes.

Resetting TPMS after tire rotation?

Does the TPMS system need to be reprogrammed after rotating the tires? If yes I would assume that just resetting the TPMS is not good enough, otherwise how would it know which wheel is which, correct? Thanks

2000 W210 E55 No crank No Start

M120 V12 K&N replacement filters in MB OEM airboxes

I'm returning the K&N cone air filters, instead bought 2 K&N panel type filters, for the original MB airboxes. tried them out yesterday. all I can say is WOW! BIG POWER ! more power that the car ever had. noticeable seat of the pants torque, speed. the car is actually a little scary now ! they are more money, around $90 a pair w/shipping. but well worth it. the best price I found was carparts.com don't mess around with aftermarket cone filters... just put the K&N's in the factory... M120 V12 K&N replacement filters in MB OEM airboxes

Recalibrate speedometer for larger tires?

Is there a practical way to calibrate the speedometer in these MLS for larger tires? I've got 33x10.50" tires on mine now, and according to the gps the speedometer reads 8% too slow. Of course the "no effort" way is to just remember the speed is that much higher, and I've done that on a lot of older vehicles over the years. However if possible, it'd be nice to have the speedo read correctly. Do these have a replaceable gear on a vehicle speed sensor in the transmission, for example... Recalibrate speedometer for larger tires?

Ignition switch and tumbler removal DIY

Alright, here goes, as promised, my attempt at a DYI. Removing the key tumbler and the ignition switch from my 1995 S320. I found that (in hind site) I didn't really need to remove the instrument cluster. Eveything can be accessed from under the dash. AC vents blows cold in the middle, but hot on both sides.

Hi, I charge my CE m104.980 with r134. Cold air blows on center vents but hot on both sides. The car was not used since Feb 2017. And I thought it just needs refrigerant refill. Center vents were good but both sides were so hot. Would appreciate some wisdom. Thanks

R500 Rear Tail Light Failure -- Magically fixed

The other night I went to head out in a light rain, upon startup I get the message that my right rear tail light is out and that Left & Right auxillary bulbs are now burning. First of all...burnt out bulb is not that disconcerning, having auxillary bulbs is cool!!!, but today, start it up...bulb is fine, no messages on the dash. Bulb magically fixed???? 1997 e320 Transmission wont go into drive when hot

started having problems getting into Drive....replaced the conductor plate and the entire shift assembly...still have same problem...when car is cold it will go into gear...when car has been driven or is hot it will not go into drive...always get reverse and park

w126 dead pedal rebuild experince

During my years of monkeying around with w126 Benz's I have come across many broken dead pedals (the driver footrest to the left of the brake pedal on LHD cars) The majority of these broken pedals is caused by either a poorly adjusted parking brake system, either worn out rear brake shoes or slack in the cable under the car to the rear. Hence a new driver will set the parking brake with too much leg and the parking brake pedal goes too far and crushes the plastic footrest. Here are photos of... w126 dead pedal rebuild experince

What is this for?

This "switch" is on the top of the deck lid inside the trunk (obviously) . I had the deck lid carpet off yesterday looking to solve an issue with my rear dome light. There appear to be no electrical connections to this "switch". The carpet appears that it was factory cut for this "switch". The car was a car for the American market delivered in Germany. I have never seen another one but then again I don't send much time in others trunks. I don't believe that the W124 was not meant to... What is this for?

I need your help

I tried many aftermarket wheels but it did not fit because of the large brakes. Can you tell me something? My project is based on 1999 MB 430 w/large brakes. I want to find 17 '' wheels again and give it an old-fashioned look. Need to properly select metal wheels. Everything is complicated by large brakes.

Sway bar bushing part number differences?

I have a 1992 300D, as well as a 1995 E320 wagon. Upon looking at the sway bar bushings, I show a bunch of part numbers for each. I understand the inside one and outside one will be different on one sway bar due to the diameter of the bar at those locations. However, can you tell me the differences in the following? The inner bushing shows 3 PN's that I've seen: 1243234985, 1243235185 and 1243235085 The outer bushing shows 2 PN's that I've seen: 1243235685, 1243234585 Any one know... Hi, looking at a this car as a potential purchase but it currently has me a bit confused. Car is build date Oct 1989, but it has the older style non pleated door card and the older style 'non soft leather' interior in beige. Original owner is selling the car and insists interior has never been swapped out. Was wondering if it was possible to ask for the older type interior when ordering your vehicle? Car is build date Oct 1989, but it has the older style non pleated door card and the older style 'non soft leather' interior in beige.

Original owner is selling the car and insists interior has never been swapped out. Was wondering if it was possible to ask for the older type interior when ordering your vehicle?

Other strange thing is that the vehicle books and paperwork state that car was delivered...

Good evening Team W140! I am looking for the seat belt retractor module for my car. I have seen a few posts that claim it is near one of the extenders. In one thread it is mentioned as being behind the drivers side rear panel. Can anyone confirm 100% before I start tearing my interior apart? I am chasing the cause for blown fuse number 7 at the rear fuse box. I think I am at this module failing. Thank you!

Bi-Xenon headlight question

Can a Bi-Xenon headlight with active cornering be used on a w211 that has only bi-xenon w/o cornering? Will it still plug in all the same? Will the auto leveling feature still work? Reason why i ask is because i had to replace my Right headlight for asthetic reasons, and now after looking at the lights.. my right and left are different. Belt Driven Air Hose Keeps Blowing Off

I am not sure what this component is on my belt system. It is in front of the oil filter. I'm guessing some kind of air pump. Regardless, it blows off. I think there is a clog somewhere in this system - but what exactly am I troubleshooting? Thanks.

Can one simply purchase the glass headlamps used on the prestige or post 84 models and fit them right in there, or do I need more parts than simply the headlamps assemblies. Cheers

Hello All: My 2000 wagons Hydro Tank Fluid level began dropping quickly today. Very stable before that. Did accumulators last fall - no change until 2 days ago. I pulled bottom panel & it appears fluid is leaking from rear of pump. Its hard to see A/C compressor is just below. I searched & there are no DIY threads - posts on replacing this "Tandem" Hydro / Power Steering pump. Also no YouTube videos ! Replacement hoses

This rubber hose broke and I can't find anywhere online for a replacement. Might anyone know where I can find this or do I just need a standards hose? 79 450 SL cranks but won't start (of course)

I am looking for a little guidance on where to go next and hope someone on the forum could provide it. My 450 SL has sit for a couple years with very little operation. Now it cranks, but won't fire. To date, I have completely re-worked the fuel system (tank cleaning, new strainer, fuel pump, filter and accumulator) and now get a great fuel aerosol spray from new injectors. I replaced the spark plugs and verified that I am getting a spark. The cold start valve was replaced a few years... 79 450 SL cranks but won't start (of course)

Hi, My recently acquired S550 airmatic, with 160k kms on it, is very smooth on paved road, no vibration etc but a bit hard over bumps and uneven pavement. I had 2001 S500 before (all bought used) that was better at handling bumps and holes. Seems unexpected, only this aspect is underperforming, feels no better than Accord. Suspension OK, rises/drops on button press, mode selected to "C" (comfort), tires pretty new. Any hint? Thanks

Fill tube bolt for automatic trans 240d 1982

Hello! So, while browsing some webpages, I came across some very cheap, never used OE shock absorbers for the front axle. One is around 60$ and second is around 70$. But there is a problem - my car is 1991 model year. The shocks I have found are for models, that are 1994 and up. And the shocks, that I found have different part numbers. Does that mean something? So been fighting the fuel system for some time, car sat to long fuel went bad. My journey included removing the tank (three times) and flushing including strapping it to a cement mixer! That really did a great job with just water in the tank. In tank screen replaced. Steering Wheel Adjust Lock! Not going clearing - Where is the sensor

Hi everyone, I am posting this after reading through multiple forums and could not get an answer. I have 2003 C240 and it has the Red Warning "Steering Wheel Adjust Lock!". My Telescopic and Up/Down both work fine. I can also lock the steering with the knob. Also, column lock with the key is fine. I tried steering left and right turning sequence (recommended for angel sensor issues) with no success. Car drives fine - no issue. Is there any way to get rid of the red screen. Where should I look?

Going to D after engine start

I don't know if this is normal or not but if I start the car with the brake pedal pressed I can't put the car in gear until I release the brake pedal and press again. Now I had to do this on my w204 as if you don't press the brake pedal car doesn't start. So I said let me start without pressing the brake pedal and see but still the same thing. It's almost like there is a required delay before I can put it to D. Doesn't feel anything stuck or broken. Is this normal?

S420 1995 obd1 won't start

I have a s420 1995 Benz. New fuel pump,good pressure, signal to fuel injectors, new fuel regulator, new spark plugs and all fuses are good in all 3 fuse boxes. 2003 ML350 electrical issues

I have a w163, without key in ignition the car lights up like a christmas tree, all dash lights on like the key is on, headlights, blower fan, 4 way flashers all on with no key, odometer is saying start error. window regulator mystery part

My passenger side front window got stuck 2" down from the top and won't move at all. I removed the door card and found this little part lying in the bottom of the door. It's only about 1/2", grey pot metal. Looks important! Any idea where it goes?

2000 C280 148.7 k. Accelerator sticks

Just wondering. Since I purchased this car in 2019 I have noticed at times the gas pedal seems to automatically accelerate when I take my foot off of it. At first I was not sure if that was happening. Then I thought maybe the floormat was pushing it down. Well sometimes it does accelerate after acceleration. My 2007 GL500 has been giving intermittent misfires over the last week or so. It started when it was parked out in the open overnight and it got cold (for Melbourne Australia) - down to about 0-1 degree C with a fair amount of dew in the morning. It idled roughly and the CEL came on so my wife didn't drive it any further. When I got home that night it started and idled OK and the CEL was off. 99 w140 DAS or key problem. Start error

I have a 99 s500. It will crank but no start. Sometimes I get the start error message. However I have spark, injector pulse. 50 psi of fuel pressure. My question is if the DAS was bad would I still be getting fuel pressure and spark? Is my key bad?

M111 problems

Good luck everyone. 2000 W210 E200 manual transmission Engine mounted on w123. We have two major problems. 1) The car does not run on petrol, there is no impulse in the injectors. 2) The speedometer does not work. Please help solve these problems. Thanks!

Fog light follies

Fog lights suddenly turned on while driving with the lamps switch in the off position. They flickered on and off causing the defective light warning to flash on the dash. Lights remained on past the standard 30 sec illumination after turning the ignition off...battery drain. I removed the controlling fuse # 9 near the steering wheel so the lights stay off. Bluetooth "Code Missing"

Hey guys, My old man has an 2005 E320 Sport (W211),We are having issues with Bluetooth. We have one of those 12V bluetooth adapters plugged into the cigarette lighter with USB ports (1 port is able to read from a USB and play MP3 files) and the car does indeed have the Bluetooth module fitted in the center console. Now,The bluetooth is picking up everything,Its connecting thats the issue all it gives us is "Code missing" I have tried so far... Bluetooth "Code Missing"

solid/vented brake rotors & calipers for 300SD

Hello, I have new Zimmerman vented rotors for the front of my 1985 300SD and have looked but can't find vented rotors for the rear, only solid ones, Zimmerman or otherwise. Are solid rotors the only ones that will work on this model? I'm also replacing the calipers and have found new ATE's on autohausAZ, $118/rear $207/front. I see rebuilt ones for much less but wonder if it's better to buy new? Would greatly appreciate any input on this project. Thanks

How is the AC Stepper Motor

A little backgrounds, my W203 C32 AMG charcoal filter stepper motor gear is broken again, so it gives the infamous clicking. Its been already fixed once, so not in the mood to fix it again ( the entire HVAC has to be removed). So im trying to find out how these stepper motors are controlled, because they are just 3 pinned and all are controlled via the same 3 wire ribbon. Metris/Vito Instrument Cluser LED Backlight dead

Hi there, so I ordered a replacement screen from MiniTools only to find that the screen's backlight still does not come on. We are outside of the EU so MiniTools cannot accept my cluster for a repair. The issue seems to reside in the motherboard. Can anyone point me in the right direction of where this motherboard fault nornally resides to solve the centre LED back-light issue? (Metris/Vito W447 model | 2018+)
