Build date Oct 1989 420SEL with older style leather interior???

Hi, looking at a this car as a potential purchase but it currently has me a bit confused. Car is build date Oct 1989, but it has the older style non pleated door card and the older style 'non soft leather' interior in beige. Original owner is selling the car and insists interior has never been swapped out. Was wondering if it was possible to ask for the older type interior when ordering your vehicle?
