W201 Workshop Manual in FAQ?

Catalytic converter 74 450 sl 4.5 Ltr MBnz model 107

i have the vehicle mentioned above, it is a late production 11/74 (purchased in california i'm now in British Columbia Can.so i'm hoping for some good luck here. Recently rebuilt bottem end.,cams ect. ( long story, but not happy)the heads were not touched, mech. said they were good .Not sure of actual mileage but it was showing 74k on it at this time. i have had the car for like 25yrs. Runflat inoperative and esp inoperative

I got this car a few days ago. And it has a esp and run flat warning comming on just as you pull away. I did have a loik at the brake swich and it looks fine. Just not sure how much play it should have between no and nc position. And if it is the problem

CL500 engine fan issues

Hi guys, My 2002 CL500 electrical engine fan was faulty and would not turn on. So I bought a new replacement online and installed into the car today. The new fan isnt operating correctly and I want to work out if its the fan or something else. Basically when I turn the car key to the ON position even without the engine being on, the fan turns on and runs at MAX speed. When the car is on the same thing happens, runs at Max speed till the car is turned off again. Coolant temperature sensor... CL500 engine fan issues

Whoa! Does anyone enjoy interpreting diagnostic reports?

Just had my 2004 W211 E320 (120k miles/200k kms) serviced and it came back with three pages of diagnostic info that is double Dutch to me. I am waiting on the mechanic to interpret it however I'm not sure he'll explain the report "properly" (I'm being nice there). If any of our community who can decipher these items could take a look at these pages and give me the lowdown, I would be incredibly appreciative. Thank you very much in advance!

HELP - A\C question on a 1987 260E

I own a 1987 260E, I converted it over to R-134a years ago, it still has the original factory compressor however, actually all the A/C components are original. The A/C works great as long as the vehicle is moving down the road I would say at least 45 mph or faster. The issue I have though is anytime I get stuck in traffic or go through a drive thru it gets very warm, the air basically becomes non existent? 19 300d reverse but no drive

I'm new here and to the world of Mercedes, I have a 91 300d that I recently purchased, I did a trans flush on it and it was driving great, after about 10 miles down the highway I took an exit and had no drive whatsoever, I threw it in neutral and pushed it off the road. What is the right price for this 2001 500 SL with AMG options?

An acquaintance is selling this 2001 R129 that's badged as an AMG, and I'm wondering what the forum thinks is the correct price if I were interested in making an offer. It has an AMG badge on the right trunk lid and has the correct sized offset AMG wheels in good condition with relatively new (~5K miles) Michelins. Coolant in Pan

So I went to do the quarterly start up of my poor neglected mog the other day and noticed after a warm up that the dipstick was milky. I let it settle for a few days and as you can see from the pic it's not good. Until now there has never been an issue and the engine hasn't miss a beat. Even on the warm up where this appears to have happened it started on the first revolution and purred like a kitten the whole time until I switched it off. Dead battery/iPod/electrical

Ok. Please try and explain this. I believe I have electrical problems in my 2006 ML 500. I'm not sure exactly what, but let me tell you what happened. Four days ago I connected an iPod to a pre-wired old iPod charging cable that was installed by the previous owner. Yesterday when I went out to start my car, the battery was dead. The car wouldn't start. When I tried to jump start it I got power to the instruments, but it would not turn over. Just a lot of clicking. Some relays made a bunch... Dead battery/iPod/electrical

CDI smokes under acceleration

I have a 2005 e320 CDI, that I recently purchased. This is my first diesel and am ready too learn as much as I can. My first question. My car smokes with part throttle acceleration. Is this normal? if this isn't normal where would you start diagnosing the problem. I have a new oil change and air filter and fuel filter in the mail.

I have a 2008 GL450 (great car). I just changed the oil (service item 03), and reset the service menu (using the Full Service Confirmation). It has only 36,000 miles. Two questions: 1. Under the Service Menu, under the Service Data, it says that it has 13,000 miles, 365 days until the next service (that makes sense). But it also has at the very top of the screen "Service 46E0Q". 2012 c250 died while driving.

Hi, so yesterday, my c250 suddenly died in the middle of the street. At 1st the car still crank for a bit when I try to start it again but after a few tries it just died. Got it towed to to a mechanic shop. They called me today and said it's not the fuel pump anything else, the only thing left is timing and they need to open the valve to check my timing because it's off. And it will cost me 500$ just to check and if I need to fix something that money will go back to the fixing cost?. Should... 2012 c250 died while driving.

i have this 2003 E320, when i park the car overnight, the battery dies and I need to jump-start it, the battery and alternator are good,the only thing I can think of is the radio cause it turns on by itself when It is turned off, should i replace the radio or 1st there are other things to look for? edit: can i find out the radio part number by the car VIN, looks like the same models have various radios installed on them

I got a dipstick and checked, no fluid (though the stick didn't go all the way in, but I read that sometimes it didn't). I added fluid, which didn't help and actually made some come out. Hi, I have joined this forum just now but have been viewing discussions on various topics. I have recently bought a 2014 E300 (diesel hybrid) which had a pound ticking noise and I suspected it to be the hydraulic lifters. I replaced the oil which liked liked (green) gear oil and smelt burnt. The cam shaft looks ok but didn't know how to check the hydraulic lifters. I replaced oil and filter, put some wynns hydraulic lifters cleaning additive and hoped for the best. Couldn't dare to drive the... Rod knock or something else

Engine is cranking, but it does not start. I have checked and there is no fuel at fuel rail. I have confirmed that my fuse is good as well as the fuel pump relay. GL550 Fuel Pump Issue

Hey, I have a 2010 GL550 and it seems to have an issue with the fuel pump or fuel pump circuitry. The vehicle will turn over and try to crank but it never cranks. My code reader gives the following code: P0628 Fuel Pump "A" Control Circuit low. I checked the fuel pressure on the fuel rail of the engine but there was no pressure. I checked fuses 43 and 53 in the rear fuse box and they are good. I also checked the relay in the back fuse box and it was good. I checked the ground continuity on... GL550 Fuel Pump Issue

Fuel screen removal

The fuel screen on my 88 560 did not come out as I removed the pump supply line As I was hoping. Of course the opening in the floor to the tank is not lined up enough to get a socket on the screen either. Has anyone come up with a bolt and jam nut/washer solution to get the screen out? I saw that Ken Berigsman (sp) is selling something similar but would like to get this job done without having to wait any further something to get shipped to me. Thanks

Brake boosters. New, used or refurbished?

In a previous thread I was troubleshooting a braking issue in a rather convoluted fashion.. it turns out my booster needs replaced. I am not confident in going the used route, and new boosters are not cheap. I am seeing them between $500-$800, which is way out my budget. Are refurbished ATE boosters an option? Is there an company making aftermarket boosters that fit the 380? I saw a thread here wherein someone successfully rebuilt their booster, which is not something I am opposed to... Brake boosters. 450sl not shifting into 3rd gear

Over the winter I changed the tranny fluid and filter in my 1977 450sl. First time out with it had some erratic shifting between 2nd and 3rd gear, so I checked the fluid and found it low. I topped it off but couldn't get it to shift into 3rd gear. Fearing the filter may have been clogged and fluid bad, I changed fluid and filter again. I used a valvoline (dextron III compatible) high mileage synthetic the second time. I'm still having problems getting into 3rd gear. I decided to check... 450sl not shifting into 3rd gear

Need advice regarding Master Cylinder to match with Brembo Brakes

Well as the titles suggest, sometime ago I did a full upgrade of my brakes in my 1991 500SL to the Silver Arrow setup. I got the front and rear calipers and rotors. I also changed my Brake Booster to this part number: A0044306530 , which seems to be used across 500SL, 500E and 600SL models until 1997 I believe. I changed my Master Cylinder to this part number... Need advice regarding Master Cylinder to match with Brembo Brakes

Part information request

Hello All, Working on my 1989 300SE with 238k miles. I need to replace the hose that goes from the coolant expansion tank that drains to the outside. The one that attaches at the rear of the radiator cap. I lt drains out under the right fender. It seems to be woven. Is it a generic hose I can buy at a parts store? Or is it a special MB hose? Is it worth me snagging a replacement one when I go to the salvage yard in the next few days... Part information request

Glk 250 DEF

Wondering if someone could help me out. With the pandemic I am unable to get to dealership. I am wondering what the valve or sensor is called that is at the end of the DEF feed line and then inserts into exhaust see photo. Thanks. Production date 10/72 R107 It's running on 4 of the 8. The front and rear cylinders are running but the center 4 are not. All plugs and wires are new and firing. I used a stethoscope to hear the front two and rear two injectors clicking while it runs but the center 4 are not. I can run little jumper wires to the center 4 injectors and hear them click. Notorious Noisy Blower Motor Swap 1994 E320

So I have the old motor out from under the wiper Its great having so many helpful people posting videos of where the pieces remove. I bought a replacement fan on ebay ;there around $50 Problem is fan diameter is about 1/2 to large for housing mounting base is different You could reuse the old base since the motor clips on; in fact you could probably use the new motor too if you wanted to reuse the old blades that are pressed on, Which would be not a great idea. Periodically code p0410 pops up. I checked secondary air pump and it runs and seems fine. Anyone have any thoughts as to why this trouble code keeps popping up. What component triggers the secondary air pump? Alan

2009 Mercedes GL450 P0410 code

I have had ongoing issues with this code and multiple attempts to remedy have not turned off CEL (multiple attempts to reset with code reader). I have replaced the secondary air pump, air check valves, inspected all hoses, replaced intake manifold actuator (plastic rod was broken), replaced fuse and relay to secondary air pump. Auto Dimming Side Mirror problem

I think there is something wrong with the driver's side mirror on my car. The light blue color on the lens is fading away from the inside (from the side closer to the driver) Basically it is gradually becoming like a normal mirror. Also I notice that there is a line that goes from side to side on the glass. It appears to be behind the glass itself (ie it is not a scratch) and the upper side of the glass does not warm up properly and stays "steamy".

We are talking about these on MBclub.co.uk and someone said he'd heard of owners carefully cutting them away with no apparent issue. They do sound strange and I find it hard to believe they are there to hold water. Maybe they are there from the days that Mercedes over-engineered? (long gone sadly!) Clk w209 headlight high beam only flashes when car is running

Hi guys , recently i've decided to change my halogen lights to led lights , so i bought c6 h7(low beam) and c6 h1(high beam)led lights and i've installed them , so the low beam lights works fine though their diplaying error msg on my dash says that both lights are not working , the problem is with the high beam lights they only work normally when car is not running !! Installing original Sat Nav unit

Hi, Recently acquired a 1999 ML430, and originality always appeals to me. Would like to install an original 'luxury' model Audio / Sat Nav unit in the form of part number A163 820 04 86. My questions are: 1. Is the unit compatible? 2. Can I update maps so the Sat Nav will function in Australia? 3. How complex is the installation (any guides available?) 4. I am thinking about installing switch in the dashboard. With this switch i will turn off (or on) supercharger when i wont need so much power. Because even when supercharger is not making efficient BOOST (cruising with little throttle push) it is using from 10-30 PS. Because supercharger run ALWAYS when car is moving (diference is only if bypass opens or not). Clutch turn supercharger OFF ONLY in standstill at idle. So if we cruise at 70 km/h with just a little throttle pedal push... Supercharger switch ON/OFF instll (230kPreFl)

280SL "K-Jet and Ignition conversion to Megasquirt" write up

This write-up will describe how I changed the "old" Bosch K-Jet fuel system on my 280SL -85 to a modern EFI-system and it will probably also work on the older Bosch D-Jet system. I will try to cover as much as possible regarding our engines when it comes to different options and installations but in the end, anyone planning to build and installing a MegaSquirt EFI system will require that you do some homework. Windshield washer tank bypass

From what I've learned the windshield washer tank has a temperature sensor that shuts off the coolant at a certain operating temperature from the windshield washer coil that runs coolant to it , but can develop a serious coolant leak at somepoint. I am about to get my windshield washer tank and pumps replaced and would like to know if bypassing would mean that hot coolant is always running in the line. SD Navigation Question Perplexed

I have a 2020 C43 build date 9/19 with Option 506 Audio 20 5.5 NTG I inserted the correct SD Nav Card into center console and absolute nothing. I don't even have a Nav Icon on my large screen. Do I need option 355 for Navigation to work? Very confusing to say the least. Thank You in advance.

Recently cleaned all my coolant system, flushed, new rad etc. Although I feel this is unrelated I have also recently experienced ACC issues. Will run nice and cold when set to cold. After driving a short trip, turn car off, come back to car later start car AC won't switch on, no fan, no compressor etc. Hot air coming out of vents (even without fan) After a while randomly... Climate control issue.

W201 Power sunroof question: To tilt or not to tilt?

As I was searching for a replacement for the classically cracked trim around my dash mounted sunroof switch, I was curious as to whether the 190's ever had the tilting sunroof option including the roof mounted sliding button/dome light feature. I had always loved that set-up from my '87 300TD but my '87 190D turbo lacks it. I found one reference stating they did change it to the titling version in mid '87. Can anyone confirm this and has anyone attempted a swap?

Unknown Wire behind sun visor (was Weird question...)

I have a 1992 500SL. As with many R129s, the sun visor mounts are cracking and so I've been inspecting what needs to be replaced... and I found something weird, to me. On the driver's side up on the header, and behind the sun visor, there is a small hole in the header. Coming out of the hold is what looks like a phone cord. The cord hangs out and at the end is a clear plastic phone jack (or what looks like it?) What is this?

Hello old R129 friends! I hope you're all doing well through this pandemic and are spending lots of time quarantining by taking long rides by yourself in your SL's. I do occasionally miss mine (like when I had to add hydraulic fluid to the top reservoir, the rear engine thing can really get in the way sometimes), but I'm really enjoying the 911. I hopped back on my old site here to offer up some help. See pic. I used this tool when I put all the hydraulic pistons back in after they went off... passed on E-clip tool to new user ( was Can anyone use this?)

3rd Brake - LED Repair/replacement.

4 LED's needed to be replaced. Bought 25 - although brake LED unit only requires 20. Cost of 25 LED's : ~$10! I decided to replace all 20 rather than just the 4 dead LED's. (I have 5 spare now..) If you do repair your cars, I do suggest you :nip: (cut off) all 4 'legs' of each old LED - so as to de-solder the old remaining cut-off LED 'legs' without damaging the pc board tracking . (It will be worthwhile purchasing a "miniature" side cutter (available at most electronic repair... 3rd Brake - LED Repair/replacement.

05 S55 crank pulley wobble (vid)

hey guys 05 needs an air pump so while I was listening to it on a cold start I noticed the crank pulley shaking a bit. Made a quick vid and tried to reference some other pulleys as contrast. I knew this was an M113 issue but never experienced it on my ML55 so I wanted to post here to get some thoughts before I order some parts! I picked up the car over the weekend so this is my first time going through some stuff but I'll have a formal introduction soon if anyone's interested. Neat story... 05 S55 crank pulley wobble (vid)
