450sl not shifting into 3rd gear

Over the winter I changed the tranny fluid and filter in my 1977 450sl. First time out with it had some erratic shifting between 2nd and 3rd gear, so I checked the fluid and found it low. I topped it off but couldn't get it to shift into 3rd gear. Fearing the filter may have been clogged and fluid bad, I changed fluid and filter again.
