SAM Modules Coded to Specific Vehicle

What year did Mercedes begin uniquely coding SAM modules to a specific vehicle? My understanding is that they were initially interchangeable between same model vehicles, but then at some point they became coded for one specific VIN. Also wondering if there is a tool to recode a SAM (or other coded devices, radio, etc) without having to go to a dealer. Any info would be very much appreciated!

Refurbishing Axle Shafts

I've decided to clean up, reboot and regrease the old axes I took off my car a couple of years ago. Just to learn how to do it really. They've cleaned up really well so far. I'm about to to press off the spider from each shaft. Do they need to to be put back on in exactly the same position? I read the following statement on another site which is confusing me? "Remember if you remove the spiders from the shaft that they must be assembled rotated at 60° to each other. " I assume it... Refurbishing Axle Shafts

This one is for the serious DIY folks. Looking through the internet for spark plug wires for my '77 450, I saw a ton of diy kits, nothing specifically called out for our cars, but it got me thinking. Could a fella with the time on his hands, and was willing to try, crimp their own plug wires, to meet the requirements of our engines ignition system? Aside from a copper core and the correct connection for the cap, what else might need to be specifically sourced for such an endeavor? Sent... DIY plug wire question

Hello everyone! Wondering about the operating temp on my car w211 e220 cdi -05. In the city the car runs at 85-90°c. In the highway after some time in constant speed at 90 km/h the temp drops to 65-70°c. Is this how it's supposed to be?

One of my future wife's favorite vehicles is the G-Class. She also likes to drive fast and I'm pretty sure has top-ended a Porsche of mine on her own, as she asked how fast it went, because she wasn't looking at the speedometer! She likes driving tough vehicles with heated seats as well and will drive on rough terrain and unpaved roads without hesitation. Throws tree stumps and fallen branches and logs in the back for the fireplace. She liked a fully restored classic 2-door G-Class that... 1990s or 2000s G-Class?

722.504 Transmission rebuild

Hey everyone, I am currently rebuilding my 722.504 transmissions from a 1996 S124. Will replace the friction plates as an overhaul kit. I have access to OEM friction plates, however, would any other aftermarket brand be suitable in terms of quality, and possibly price? Also, I was able to source a valve body assembly that seems to be from a 722.509 and has a part number (A124 270 80 15). Question re: tire size compatibility on '98 S320

I posted this question on the "Tires" forum a week ago, but no answer, so hoping someone here will help me: I've been given a set of 4 Firestone Winterforce studded 215/60R16 tires. I'd like to know if I can safely mount and use them on my stock 7.5Jx16, 1998 S320 wheels for the winter? I'm currently using 225/60R16 (all-season Michelin) tires on the wheels. Thanks!

Rough Startup/Vacuum Issue 1979 450SL

Can anybody help me identify this part? And it's function? I am not sure, but I think it is the "Thermo Valve 50degree" and part of the engine vacuum system. It is in the front of the engine near the WUR and screws directly into the manifold, it appears. It has two vacuum lines coming out of it. It has broken off with the majority still inside the manifold. My symptoms are - very rough cold start, car warms up after a minute or two and runs like a brand new engine. I'm not the... 2000 E430 Gutted Muffler+ resonator delete with x-pipe (with pics and Video)

So I finished My Exhaust a few days ago and wanted to share my experience.. I wanted a little more growl, but not too too much like the 97 E420 that I previously had. I removed the rear cats resonator and put an aftermarket muffler on. Way too loud. I started with removing the resonator and putting an x pipe in place. $100 Result: It sounded a little deeper. Just a little extra hum when you step on the gas and a little meaner when full throttle (no noise difference inside) I liked it but... 2000 E430 Gutted Muffler+ resonator delete with x-pipe (with pics and Video)

HELP - need advise or new wood steering wheel

Hello everybody I bought new wood steering wheel and I was on my way to replace with the original. disconnected the battery and was unable to open the 4mm bolt on the right side of the steering wheel. I think the head is damaged no problem opening the left side but the right is not opening. any suggestion? any one had issue like this and how it can be resolved? I'm lost. kind of crippy to work next to the airbag even when the battery is disconnected.. HELP please Meir

2008 mercedes benz ml550 4matic new battery alot of not working electronics

Hello i got a new problem i changed auxillary and main battery didnt touch anything else and now only the radio turns on and seats move and when i put key into ingition doesnt make any noise or bring any dash lights on when turned to ignition also shows the miles for a second and then the miles switch to 0 and under the 0 it shows ------ anyone have any idea what can cause this

Recling seat cables keep popping out

My rear recling seat cables that connects from the motor to the cable keeps disconnecting after a few uses maybe. The cable is similar to what goes on a dremel. The whole cable I'd not popping out but the shaft keeps disconnecting.

2001 E320 4matic...random loss of acceleration mystery

Greetings. I'm sure this is a common issue. My 2001 E320 sometimes loses acceleration power and it happens randomly. The trigger seems to happen when you depress the accelerator near to the floor switch, as in preparing to pass someone and you quickly press down but not enough to click the floor button. I've replaced that floor switch thinking it was the issue until this problem happened without me clicking it. Anyone have an idea of a part that could be faulty here?

How to manually lock a door?

Just bought a used MB C300, 2010 It turned out the rear back door behind the driver does not lock - meaning the pin is stuck and if you try to open from inside the door appears locked and cannot unlock manually or automatically. But from outside the door is always open. The alarm goes off when you try to open but still… Can someone tell me is there a way to manually put that door in an always locked position so it won't stay open by the time I am able to get to a mechanic. thanks so much I... No Crank No Start problems 2000 E320

Hey all, i bought a used e320 about a year ago. 248k miles on the body/electronics, engine and transmission were rebuilt (there was a lawsuit involved with a bad oil change incident, i won't get into it!). A little back story before i get into the no crank- no start issue: Electrical problems: First thing i noticed with this car was that the turn signals werent working. The seller told me it was a switch that needed to be replaced, and at the time i trusted him, but i don't anymore... No Crank No Start problems 2000 E320

Hi all. I'm interested in buying a 1988 W124 200 carb. It's the very basic one with roll up windows. It has about 170k km on the clock and it's extremely neat inside and out. The engine has also been overhauled and is owned by a w124 enthusiast. Can anyone tell me if it's worth buying this car? Because I really like it but have no idea about those old motors and how reliable they are. Any advice is welcomed 😀

W210 A/C Pressure question

A/C was working well after replacing compressor and condenser for about 3 years. Then started hissing at center vents, less cold, and finally EC button comes on automatically and stays on with no cold air. #7 sensor shows 03 bar. Error code says refrigerant temp sensor is bad. I check the refrigerant on the low pressure side and it reads full.... Here are the sensor readings with temp set at 72 on both sides, engine idling. 1. In-car temp 84 2. outside air temp 93 3. left... W210 A/C Pressure question

Help! W220 Part Identification (Transmission ? )

I park my 2002 S55 backwards in the garage and was slowly driving down my driveway. I slowly pressed on the brake as I got to the bottom of the driveway, and noticed it felt a little weird, but overall it was okay. Afterwards, I got out and saw this part I'm the driveway. Is it a piece from the transmission? I'm wondering which part this is. Overall the car appears to drive fine, but I want help identifying where it came from. Hello, I recently serviced my CLK320 and decided to include a new fuel filter, as the old one was fitted at manufacture and 20 years is a long time. Many swear words later, Ryco filter is installed but then the fuel pump whinges like a stuck pig. Painful to the ears. I spoke to my tame mechanic, and he advised that the change in back pressure caused by the new filter can highlight problems with the pump. I chose a Bosch pump as I did not want to go through this procedure more than once... More fuel pump woes - Noise!

Recently, my car's back left suspension has been slammed, and the pumping noises repeatedly heard every several minutes from under the hood that I suspect come from a compressor for the air suspension system. Parking brake inoperable - adjustment issue

I get no pedal action on my 91 300D for the parking brake. I can't push it far enough to get a single click; certainly no actuation. I jacked the rear of my 91 300D, and took the wheels off. Messed with the parking brake adjusters on both sides, and tightened each side such that I couldn't turn by hand, then backed it off. Since I knew the pedal wasn't right, on the passenger side I decided to back it way off - 10 clicks. On the driver side, I could only back it off four of so clicks... Wastegate for the Turbo

Does the 2012 C250 Turbo 1.8L have a wastegate in its turbo??? How does the air relived when the throttle body closes at 70 miles per hour by removing the foot off the gas pedal??? The car is moaning with a slight vibration during the closing and will return to normal acceleration after pressing on the gas pedal!!

Need '95 S320 Wiring Diagram

I think I have looked here carefully, but have not found a source for a full wiring diagram for my 1995 S320. I hate Mercedes’ clutch fans

stepdaughter has been driving my 94 e320. mb fan clutch 6 months old. One of the electric aux fans siezed up a now Its needs a headgaske. I should've put that fan clutch in the trash long time ago and installed an electric cooling fan. I keep saying it, mb dropped the ball on the cooling design of the w124 By putting a fan and clutch design that can't keep up with the demands. if anyone wants a beautiful e320 that needs a headgasket let me know I'll give you a good deal

Is the Hydraulic Fluid the same for the suspension as for the convertible top? I thought they used two different fluids but when I was just searching to get a bottle to keep on hand for the suspension it's coming up with the same part number for both, available in Bilstein or Mercedes brands but the same ZH-M designation in both cases and even the bottles unique shape and colors looks identical other than the names printed on the label.

Am I Missing A Step?

However there is one thing I can't quite figure out. In other vehicles you typically get the trunk cover extended to the right position, click the convertible button towards you to retract the top, and hold it until the top is tucked away.

On this one the roof won't retract even though the motors sound like they have all the energy in the world.

I think I'm missing a step. I'm embarrassed...

Differential Locks won't engage

Hello, I have a W463.331 (300 TD OM606 177hp) and I have some problem with the dif lockers, the transfer locker don't engage, so I'm wondering that the pump don't wok, but, I can not find it, I saw a los of hoses going thru the engine bay, but can't find the pump, any idea where is located? Also, I'm wondering it may have 12v when the Transfer lock button is on right? Of course the other lockers also don't engage if the central is not locked

01 E430 Took apart the duo valve with rebuilt kit ready ($10 eBay) sent from China, took 3 weeks to get it. I turned ignition key on, after removing the 5 Torx T10 screws. Saw no evidence of gasket or seal failure, Valves were unbroken and moved freely. Coils click when after removing the wiring harness put right next to connection. So coils good. It would seem it is highly likely that the climate control unit itself is faulty as it does not respond to incremental heat increase commands... DuoValve drama

I'm looking for a wagon to replace our old volvo and I'm just wondering if anybody knows for sure whether or not Mercedes ever sold a C240 6 speed manual wagon in the US. A few web sites including the gov's own fuel economy site claims it exists but I haven't been able to find any evidence of that. I assume its extremely rare or was never actually imported. Yesterday I had the opportunity to look over a 2013 GL450 that did a full rollover at 100 mph after losing control going downhill. This GL has the full panoramic sunroof option and tinted windows. The roof rails took the brunt of the rollover load. Not a single piece of body glass was damaged. The cosmetic piece of darkened glass, at the edge of the roof after the windshield, shattered on impact with the ground. The side air curtains all deployed. A-pillars are flawless. The mirrors... Kickdown causing a MAF fault and limp mode

Hi guys, I have the following problem and wonder if anyone could suggest some troubleshooting techiques. Once kickdown is activated after pressing accelerator all the way down, the car is going into a limp mode with EML on the dash.I do have a scaner and have managed to clear this fault a couple of times myself. I have also cleaned the MAF sensor as it was a little dirty. It just makes me wonder at what values I should look on the live data screen and waht they should be lookimg like.Also... idling problem after charging battery?

Hi, I'm new here on the forum, and I'm from Sweden, (so excuse the misspellings) I have a mercedes w211 200E 2006 M271.941 engine I have a problem with a shaky idle, and that the car almost dies when I step on the gas.. the whole engine shakes, so the car cannot be driven.. I tried disconnecting the MAF sensor but it made no difference.. the car has been stationary for 3 days with the battery charger on, (plus and minus poles directly in front of the engine) before that the car ran... idling problem after charging battery?

My car is #5514 and as you know when ordering parts for early or transitional years can be frustrating, so I figured I would ask the forum members to suggest a correct fuel filter. #2 Would any of the Bosch fuel pumps listed on parts vendors for a 1972 work? I know the rarity of the original pump and those listed as "applicable" are most likely close or generic and can work? Any rebuilders for the original? Thanks, Rob

-95 Benz SL500. rpm goes up and down in park and in gear.

Hi all. Got a problem with my Benz , it just started when had to do a stop and car in gear. The idle of the rpm goes up and down and engine almost stall, rpm goes up to 700 rpm and then down to 200 rpm and some time it almost stall. and when I got to drive the car I can feel the car in speed goes up and down. I have checked for any loss vacuum hose with answer no. Hi all. Got a problem with my Benz , it just started when had to do a stop and car in gear. The idle of the rpm goes up and down and engine almost stall, rpm goes up to 700 rpm and then down to 200 rpm and some time it almost stall.
and when I got to drive the car I can feel the car in speed goes up and down. I have checked for any loss vacuum hose with answer no. Now I wonder what this could I never had this problem before , anyone with some solution to the problem I'll be thankful for...

Original owners, where was the Owner's Manual in holder originally stored?

The original Owner's Manual with supporting documents in the factory zippered holder does not comfortably fit in the glovebox. Unless I am missing a glovebox shelf, there is interference with closing the glovebox door when the zippered holder is laid flat. Did it originally come in a door pocket or the rear storage tray?

Changing sparkplugs and coils

It was not as easy as it looks in the video. Most difficult part was to get the coils (tube part) of the spark plug. In the video they easily pop off. In reality they look to be glued and will. Ot come off easily. Several of the plastic and rubber "tubes" cracked when taking them off. Maybe my wrench a boot puller was not the right one for Mercedes. All and all a 5 hour job. 2003 E320 Parisitic draw?

Hello, Does anybody perhaps know if a standby current of 140-180mA is normal on a E320 2003 ? If not what is the normal range? Does anyone perhaps have the wiring diagrams of this car? here is my story: I recently bought a E320 2003 and (here in South Africa) some cars have after market tracking devices installed. The problem is that these tracking companies don't ever fix these decices if they break - they just add more and leave the old ones. These devices draw power ( abt 80mA). But... 2003 E320 Parisitic draw?

Transmission won't shift beyond 3000RPM.

Greetings fellow Benz owners, I am recently a proud owner of a 1992 W140 (S320) for good price, and found myself visiting this forums many times in my searches so what better way to explain my problems to than with you all here. So putting shift lever on D the transmission would shift all gears at exacly 3000RPM no matter how much throttle i press (I got +160km/h no problems), (NOTE: The kickdown cable is in place and hooked, wasn't before) However when i put the lever... Transmission won't shift beyond 3000RPM.

Have you noticed the paint dings in your hood? I noticed the Dealership only uses a touch up repair on CPO vehicles. Planning to find a touch up paint rather than a Sharpie marker

Map/reading light circuit board

Hi all, just wanted to know if someone has ever replaced the integrated circuit in the dome light circuit board, that controls the lights when opening the doors..in my '93 320SL, my lights work independently, but they won't go on when i open the doors. It seems the Philips UAA1250 IC blew and I wanted to replace it. I have one extra but it's from a '90 300SL, part of the numbers match but not all, so I'm looking to find if someone knows if it would work or not. Attached are 2 pics from both... Central locking system

Hello guys, I have a 1998 c180 and my central locking system has stopped working. It was working yesterday when I pressed the fob keys it locked fine. This morning I attempted to open it with the key fob but didn't work. I checked the fob batteries and they each read 2.91v, so I'm guessing they are okay. I checked the infra red signal with a phone and I can see the infra red light in the phone camera. when I start the car, the lock button on works fine and the locks open and...
