W220 Air suspension compressor repeatedly pumping in a short amount of time

Hello, I have a 2002 S-Class W220 (S320). Recently, my car's back left suspension has been slammed, and the pumping noises repeatedly heard every several minutes from under the hood that I suspect come from a compressor for the air suspension system. My local mechanic told me that I have to change the air suspension strut because it is leaking, but I am not sure that's the case, because the leaking noises come from the front, under the hood, but the slammed one is on the back left side.
