Hi Just installed a new rear control arm, an axle bush and sway bar link on the above (it has an SLS ram). Now need to tighten everything up and was hoping someone could provide me with the torque settings. Thank you in advance.

Replacing Airbag Capsule/ Steering Wheel Center on 560sl

I have a deteriorating plastic cover on the horn/airbag portion of steering wheel.. There are worsening cracks in the score lines of the cover.. I tried to use a black rubber caulk to seal them but it is ineffective. I can see that this cover is part of the actual airbag capsule, so I assume that entire airbag capsule will need to be changed... I have doubts about the functionality of a 38 year old airbag, but would still like to find way to replace and repair steering wheel to good OEM... Do you guys know how to remove this kind of center cap.

Do you guys know how to remove this kind of center cap.. I initially though that I can pry it off but I noticed that this cap is spinning freely so I decided not to pry it but ask for an advice. on the outer edge of the cap there is a small slot which looks like you can insert a screwdrive into it, however the metal of this cap is fairly thin and I'm concerned that if I try to pry it off, it will bebd or deform the cap. Please advise.

Need OVP for 83 380SL

Car is idling high... about 1000 RPM with car in park, otherwise running good. Before I purchased, car was hesitating badly on accelerating from stop. Local shop said the idle control valve was good but previous owner didn't have them chase it back any further. I replaced the idle control module which seems to have corrected the acceleration issue. Trouble is, I can't find an OVP anywhere. Anyone know of a source?

Car has about 207k miles, over 7 owners, and is in need of more than a few things to get up to daily driving condition. High priority now is the noise coming from the front end. I'm getting some popping and maybe some clunking. I prefer to DIY, but if a job is really best done at the dealer or an independent garage, let me know. Cooling system pressure test

I need to pressure test the cooling system on my '98 wagon as I lost most of the coolant from the expansion tank suddenly but do not see a leak. I have a Stant pressure test tool but not an adapter for connecting it to the fill port on the expansion tank. I seems that the adapter is out of production and there is no stock. The Stant part number is 31435. Does any one have an adapter that I could buy, rent or barrow? I can pay for it via paypal or venmo. Thanks in advance! Jay

CLK430 poor acceleration

Ok, so I have read absolutely every post regarding the apparently very common problem that we who own a CLK430 ( that's with the M113 motor) have. That being of course is that they don't accelerate worth a dam, for a V8 that is and will cost you a small fortune in parts and labor exchanging almost everything that is bolted on to the exterior of the engine to try and fix what apparently is unfixable. I have change myself: the MAF sensor, the Throttle Position Sensor, the Crank Position... CLK430 poor acceleration

Excuse my ignorance, as I feel I should already know the answer.. I note that '86-'87 560sl are rated at 11 more HP than '88-'89 versions... 238hp vs 227hp ... Is this difference simply emissions related, or is it due to other substantive differences in drivetrain or exhaust set-up?

Need help for installing timing chain tensioner for 2003 Mercedes’ c240 / w203 2.6L 112 v6 engine

So I have done a bit of work and tear down on my benz this summer. I took out the timing chain tensioner, then later on reinstalled it, to the best of my ability. I had the right bank valve cover off and had someone lifting the timing guide rail, so I could install the tensioner, it was difficult, even stripped the threads slightly but it still held tightly. After reconnecting everything and then starting the car, there was bad oil leak, and bad timing slap sound. I double checked again and... Emergency Tire Replacement

On the way home from Las Vegas early (4:30 a.m.) one recent morning, the left-front of the original Continental run-flats decided to blow up. Hello! ... new to the forum but not Benz. I converted AC to R134 (only requires new dryer, oil purge&refill). Changed Evaporator sensor and want to change heater core sensor but don't know how to gain access! Anybody have a "How-To" for R&R of the heater core sensor? I understand it is located a bit to the left and behind the climate control module and turned forward into the plenum area. Can credit cards be used to slide under the radio to release the keeper-clips as on the climate... Heater Core Sensor

Hi all Im mounting a set of new Euro bumpers, but keeping the US quad headlights. So I picked up a set of NOS banana lights to use as turn signals. All is going well, but it looks like I need to make a major modification to the lower plastic grill. So much so that I'm not sure it would maintain its structural integrity. Has anyone who has done this share their wisdom and experience? I understand that there was a factory grill from the 1972 and 1973 cars that had this setup. But I assume... 04 sl500 engine oil dipstick

New to me 04 SL500. I have not delved under the hood yet, and I am looking for the easy way out to find WHERE I can insert one of these aftermarket engine oil dipsticks. Do I remove the engine plastic cover and find it somewhere there? Also, there are numerous dipsticks advertised on EBay, but are they all correct if they say they will cover the 04 SL500? Do I need to calibrate one of these? I saw that some of the ads show millimeter markings on the blade. Thanks.

1999 Mercedes 500SL, instrument cluster not working

The instrument panel no longer works on my 500SL. Not a single gauge, tank, temperature, speedometer... The "Brake" indicator also lights up. Everything was normal on Saturday. Then I came up with the idea of repairing the dome cover because it had cracks. I removed the mirror the wiring and the plastic trim. I repaired and painted the plastic dome cover, connect the cables assembled everything. 2000 E430 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER

My original Instrument Cluster information LCD (center LCD) began going white and sometimes blank. Finally determined to be the Motherboard. Bought a good cluster on eBay. It works but shows DISPLAY DEFECTIVE VISIT WORKSHOP! It shows the mileage from the previous vehicle, so suspect that has some relationship to the Failure. Looking for direction on on to have this fixed. I still have the original Instrument Cluster, which sometimes works showing mileage.

380 warm idle issue please help

Hi, I have a 1983 380 I purchased spring of 2022. The car ran like a top for 2 months then started to have Idle problems. It starts cold and runs smooth a silk. when it warms up to 80 on the temp it's like someone throws a switch. It starts to rough idle. I have changed the O2 sensor and gave it a good look for vacuum leaks. I also took of the idle control valve and gave it a good cleaning. It seemed to be clicking free when I shook it so i believe it's good. Any thoughts?

Yet another suspension surprise

Hello! So tonight was backing up in my backyard and heard some strange noises from rear of the car. Opened the window and listened to the noise. Noise is coming from rear axle, driver side. You can replicate the noise if you back up few centimeters and slam on the brakes. It is that hidious creaking sound. Sounds like something is about to fall off. Inspected my rear suspension last week, everything was good there. I think that could be brake related...? Or does it sound like failing... Yet another suspension surprise

04 E-class suspension questions

I just bought a 04 Mercedes E500 4matic and the right side front and the right side rear bags were collapsed and I just got a new strut for the front and it says on a YouTube clip to apply 9 volts to the strut to collapse it so you can install it, however this strut will not collapse with 9 volts. I was wondering if anybody knows how many volts the on board computer sends to the strut when it is on the car? I don't want to put this strut on just to have it not work. The car belongs to a friend of a friend, he is the fifth owner since 2019. He sent me a spreadsheet with details about the car's service and repairs. Is it wise to buy this car, is so what would be a reasonable price to pay for it?

CLS55 Dreaded Red Battery on dash!

Ok guys, beating my head on the wall with this one... Just bought a 06' CLS55 and it wouldn't start from day one. We ahead and installed new batteries front and back, started up fine immediately but ac stopped blowing and red light battery came on in dash... So next obvious step was voltage regulator, it once again fired right up and waited a good 45 sec to a minute before the same AC off and red battery light. camshaft positioning sensor, can't find it

I have a 2003 slk230 kompressor and the camshaft sensor is not above the oil filter but there is a flat spot in the casting where it should be. Can someone tell me where it is? i have a rough idle and can't find a vacuum leak so I was looking into this. Thanks for any help.

2021 C300 Did I buy the right Headlight?

I just cracked my passenger side headlight.. instead of trying to get it replaced at the dealership or through insurance I decided to do some research online. Found one on eBay and cross referenced my headlight OEM to the one listed. However, this is a 2019 model and I currently drive a 2021 c300 4matic. Everything matches up and got it for a fair price. W203 C180 Kompressor Belly Pan

Does anyone here have a W203 C Class with the belly pan that has no hole for the rubber center jack point? My 2006 C180 Kompressors belly pan seems to be unique to others as all I have seen have the rectangular hole for the the jack point pad to go through. Mine just has a circular indent without the hole so its impossible to see precisely where the pad is and where to jack up. I know for a fact that the engine is seized; it has been sitting in storage for at least 30 years. I've attached a pic of the ID tag. I had one person say Signal Red paint and then another said Tomato Red (never heard of that) I want to do a re-paint and get it correct. Plugged catalytic converters

As I mentioned in another thread, I confirmed that plugged catalytic converters are the cause of very poor acceleration above 3000 RPM in the 95 S500 coupe. As I consider replacing with either new or used OEM, my mind goes where most of us have been conditioned to go, to the cause. The car starts and runs perfectly otherwise. Turned the COMAND off thinking "well that will silence it!". Nope. Noise continued. Turned on car this morning and sound began as I turned key (Comand still turned off). Exorcism required? I figured it's a short somewhere. Any obvious places to start? Other than at my local MB dealership?

When I turn my car to the "on" position (electronics active, engine not running) and check most of the available values through Torque and a generic OBD2 interface, most of them are zeroed out, which I would expect since the engine isn't running. My fuel rail PSI values, though, show about 30PSI for the first few seconds, and then starts to fluctuate pretty wildly: I then continues to jump around between 2-28 PSI, even without starting the... Sandin AC Compressor Issue

Hello Gang, We installed a New Old Stock Sandin SD 508 compressor and charged the system with freon. She cooled beautifully for about two days and then started to cut out. Our mechanic found the compressor seals to be leaking. Is ther a shop that will rebuild these compresso? Or is there a third party replacement that will match up to this unit. Thanks advance, Walt

2016 C292 UPD intake spacer kit installed

I'm new to the group and on my 2nd AMG… I had a 2016 450 sport coupe but now have the 63s version. I installed the UPD intake spacer kit. Also ordered spacers for the ecu so everything sits flush except the very back where it's bowing from the raised air boxes or my clips need replacement.

1984 380SL no spark

HELP!! PLEASE!!! I bought my 1984 380SL from an auction. It had no keys for it. I removed the lock cylinder and tried to start it with a screwdriver as it does not have a chip-key. No start. It does not seem to be getting spark from the coil. It was suppose to have ran when it was impounded 13 months before now. The "+" side of the coil is reading 10v, and the "-" side is at 5v. I am thinking it could be the pickup in the distributor or the CDI box on the fender, but i cant find any way to... 1984 380SL no spark

HELP!! PLEASE!!! I bought my 1984 380SL from an auction. It had no keys for it. I removed the lock cylinder and tried to start it with a screwdriver as it does not have a chip-key. No start. I have the factory 19" wheels, but would love to get something smaller in diameter with more meat on the tire for the same circumference. Anyone know the smallest wheel that will clear the brakes?

Pulley/belt tensioner bearing replacement

After being quoted $350 for new pulleys (2 of them for 200K model) i decided to replace the bearings instead of the unit. Draw the layout of the belts especially if you are changing belts as well. Locate the torx (red arrow) and rotate it anti clockwise to release the tension to remove the belt. Remove the nut that holds the metal housing shown below. Remove the pulley... 0-100kph (or 0-60mph for some...)?

Anyone tried pushing their B250 a little? Drop it into sport mode (perhaps manual DCT) and see the 0-100 time? Generally speaking, I'd say the B250 is underrated at 6.8 seconds, more like 6.3 or such. Thoughts?

Condenser Problems

Hi all, I have a confusing problem with my AC condenser. The condenser is not rejecting a significant amount of heat even when the auxiliary fan & engine fan are hard wired to run on max. It will reject heat when I pour water on it and when that happens the pressures on both sides are fine and it cools the cabin really nicely. I'm baffled because the condenser seems to be in working order. It was flushed & cleaned three times, and has no leaks. Did any of you experienced this issue... Condenser Problems

My 98'clk 320 won't shift out of first gear. I've had the tranny replaced but its still doing the same thing it was doing. Anybody know why this is happening?

OM352A Rebuild

I have a 1985 OM342A that threw a rod. I plan on pulling the motor and rebuilding it. I am looking for parts. I found rings and gaskets but cannot find anything else. I'm pretty sure it will need a new crank. Is there a supplier for parts?

So, today i was checking my fluid levels, and i noticed a oil driping from this black small cover, i touch it very gently because was not fully pulled , and immediatly broke. what is this? this is normal? where can i buy it ?can i do it my self? thank you. photos anexed

BAS ESP WARNING - Car breaks itself!!!

Hello to every one... I wonder if you have faced the same problem. Its a CLK 200 Cabrio 2001 and all of a sudden the last month, BAS ESP yellow light came on during the journey... Reseted with the steering whell procedure... Worked for a while... If you park it and turn it on after sme time, light goes off as well... The last week has started in the town the light to come on at any speed, and the car breaks itself without pressing the brake, brakes for 3-4 times, you can feel it ... BAS ESP WARNING - Car breaks itself!!!
