Considering 2012 MB SLK 350. Any bad SLK experiences why I should not buy this beautiful auto?

Hi, I was a 13 C300 4matic Luxury owner w 192K miles and happy until struck in wreck. Now I am looking at the SLK 350 model. It's a 2012. 58k . I am going to inspect the rear sub frame 1st but any other experiences good or bad are appreciated. I offer my suggestions to forum often as I am not a mechanic , just an owner with a desire to work on Mercedes Benz. thanks,

1998 E320 Bose sound -- read speakers not working, any tips?

I just bought a 1998 E320 wagon. It has the Bose sound system (with a cassette, CD Changer and Analog cell phone!) The sound system is stock as far as I can see. The front speakers sound fine, radio and CD changer work well. But the read speakers do not make any noise. The fader control will turn down the front speakers but still no noise from the rear speakers. Is this a known failure pattern? Replace the Phone with Aux In?

I have a 1999 E320. I don't have a phone in the car and from what I understand it's such old technology that even if it did have a phone it wouldn't work on today's cell systems. Most reliable model to buy

Hi Everybody! This is my first post here on Benz World. I want to buy a Mercedes as my second car, one to use during the weekends, maybe once during the week but want a realiable, pretty much easy to maintain car. I was thinking of maybe something from around the 80s, early 90s to reduce the amount of electronics that the car has and with a manual transmission. Any advice on which models may be easier to maintain? Of course assuming they have been taken care of... Most reliable model to buy

My 01 ML430 recently posted a CEL, and I was able to pull a P0173 and a P0170. There are quite a few posts in this forum covering this topic, and I've tried to gleam what I could from my fellow ML owners. 1980 280E - Looking for some pointers on where to start....

I have a 280E which has a few things going on that I want to get into good order. Not sure if its connected or not, but there is a whining sound that is there at idle, as well as driving, as well as a rough / lumpy idle. I've adjusted the screw to bring up the revs which has sorted out the slow thud and sometime stall, but still its a little rough. ANY idea appreciated, thank you

About to look at a CL500...

Hi all, I'm about to look at my first CL500 and frankly, I'm a bit nervous. I know very little about these cars aside from whatever a cursory Google search returns from the interwebs. The car in question is a MY2002 with 181,000 miles on the clock. Carfax is clean, the current owner has owned it for 5 years and has only ever driven it sparingly in the summer. Sunroof conversion - updating to tilting

Hi guys, my car is a w201 but assuming the w124 people may know about the differences in these systems as well. I have a chance to grab some parts and was wondering if anyone knew everything that would be needed to convert an older version sunroof (just open and close) to the newer version (open, close, tilt). I know the switch and switch location is different but what else is required? Need every last detail if possible. Cheers and thanks!!!

SBU Unimog 1250L Master Brake setup

I have another question pertaining to the master brake setup on this truck. I don't know if there are one or two master cylinders. The original setup that is there has slots for two master cylinders. I'm guessing one would go to the front four and the other to the back two calipers. The only other setup that I've seen in person has one master cylinder. The middle picture is my current setup, and the last one is one I've gotten pictures of.

That being said I can swap out most things. Like wheels and non xenon headlights. I think I would prefer a 97' with the DOHC if you guys recommend that, its very hard to find a 97'. Transmission swap -- 722.608 (from 99E300 2wd into 99E320 4matic (722.664)?

Transmission (722.664) on 99E320 4matic is dead, needs a new one. I have a smashed 99E300 with a good transmission (722.608). The 608 diesel trans is good for 330nm, the 664 gasser 300nm, so that part would be fine. I have a question as to whether this would be a direct swap, or would there be differences in the cases that I would need to deal with, or that might not allow it if the cases are different. Pinouts for wiring harness?

I'm having trouble reading the diagrams to figure out which pins of a connector are used for what. Can anyone give me some guidance on how to figure out the pinouts for these things? I have the wiring harness for TPMS, part number A211-540-62-07-98. It has one big complex connector that latches into the TPMS computer unit, and splits out into six or seven legs that go other places. Four of those legs run to the antennas, one in each wheel well. One leg runs to the rear SAM for CANbus... Pinouts for wiring harness?

hello, I have read the posts here, but how can i determine what are vehicle use as oil? any oil, be it transmission, oil, break? I have an E350 2010. C240 hard to start

Got a 2003 C240 4MATIC. for the last several months I've had an intermittent problem starting the car. The battery is just fine, just put a new one in as the old one was five years old and I had the battery die on my 2002. When I turn the key, sometimes it cranks and starts, sometimes it will crank for less than a second and not start, sometimes it does nothing. I've had it to the dealer twice. As expected, I keep getting "unable to duplicate problem". I've already paid $160 to... C240 hard to start

00' ML320 Springs rate and length

Any know the spring rate and diameter and length of the rear ML320 springs, would like to get some custom replacements made but these specs do not seem available online or from the dealer, and I would rather not remove the existing ones until I source replacements. I have 2 cracked springs and do not want to go lower on my ride height. any help would be much appreciated.

Spare Parts

While on vacation I was given a number of spare parts for both my W123 & W126, in a case included with the parts was a later V6 intake with harness, rails, injectors, coil packs and a blower. Since they're not for either of my cars I would like to identify which model they are for so I post them up in the proper forum and hopefully find a home with someone who could use them. Hello Just wondering how do I identify if I have at the rear the air suspension Airmatic fitted from the interior? .The manual shows some option at gear selector adjusting the lewel manually or automatic on 3 levels. ABS heat shield fastener location

I feel pretty stupid about this--I took photos a year ago when I removed this section for rust remediation/painting. I'm ready to reinstall, but there is no apparent threaded hole to receive the flat/open end of the shield. The holes in the upper right side of the photo appear to be lightning or drainage holes in the unibody. Bulbs for map lights and festoon sizes

Hi All, My car had already had an interior LED light upgrade when I bought it, the front dome and rear dome had been done. However the reading /map lights looked yellowy in comparison. To my surprise they had been upgraded as well to mini bright white bulbs but they just don't have the bright white/blue white that matches the rest of the LED bulbs. '99 e320 won't won't start

Hi. My '99 e320 won't turn over in park or neutral when I turn the key in the ignition switch. I thought it would be the neutral switch. While searching I read that they stopped the neutral switch in '97.
My question is, what part has replaced it and what needs to be done.

Check engine light

I have a 2015 S550 with 49k miles. I drive the car twice a week at most. After not driving for about 5 days, the check engine light all of a sudden is on. I do have a dignostic tool that I plan to hookup later. Ill consider contacting the dealer if the code is something of concern. But, int the meantime. does any one have any ideas as to what would have made the check engine light come on just out of the blue?

w202 vs w210 center trim panel

hi guys I am considering going double din on my w202. There are no kit available for the w202 as far as I know but I have seen some nice part for the w210. Codes 2203 and 1697 causing transmission limp mode

A few weeks ago, I had some occasional rough shifts got the following codes: Trans module: 2203 Internal electrical check of Component Y3/6n3 (speed sensor 3) has failed ME9.7 module: 1697 Fault in control module ETC ME9.7 module: 0522 Tumble flap open circuit sensor lines/shaft stuck in non-actuated position P2006 I have reset the codes several times, but they come back. Change vacuum modulator

Started to change the vacuum modulator today but chickened out. Looking at the parts and how they would have to squeeze into the small access room looked daunting. Stopped and read some posts but most were about adjusting the pressure, not changing the modulator. Realizing I would have to droop the transmission (no problem) but also entailed loosening the exhaust pipes and maybe disconnecting the drive shaft, I decided I didn't have enough time today. What colour is this R129?

Hi there, I'm looking to finally buy an R129, but I'm very fussy when it comes to things like colour. After looking through many photos, I found this image and really liked the colour on this 500SL. Hi guys, I'm having a transmission stuck in limp mode, No speedometer all started right after disconnecting and reconnecting Front left SAM and ESP+BAS+PML control module. No reverse lights

Hello all, I just noticed my reverse lights have stopped working. Globes intact, no fuses blown. I'm assuming its in the reverse switch on the transmission. My question is that switch on the trans under the car, or is it located near the shifter under the wood trim. Car per my profile. W126 280se.

C350 blowing gaskets

Hi guys, new here and would appreciate any help / advice given... I have a 61 plate c350 diesel and recently it blew the rear main oil seal, got it fixed to be told that the secondary sump gasket had now blown. Paid for that, got the carhome and a week later another gasket had gone, think this one was under the turbo. Could there be something pressurising the engine and causing all these gaskets to start popping, has anyone come across this before? Dunno whether to get rid as I cant keep... C350 blowing gaskets

Dumb idea? SEC Manual Trans 6 cylinder?

I keep coming up with dumber and dumber ideas every day. I have two four speed 280se w126. It shouldn't be all that hard to swap the drive trains into the 1982 500sec, would it? Can anyone think of any dumber ideas? Maybe the 300sel 5-speed would make more sense, but I feel that would be better into a 560sec chassis.

Came across this today, a pic of a 107 on a dyno about to be cold start tested. -25c (-13f) Have a look at the ice hanging off the car, and the engineer suited up. Apparently he's got an oxygen line plumbed into his helmet to stop any fogging up Bugger it, if it's that cold I'm not heading out 🥶

Mb trac turbo on unimog 416

Just found a used Mb trac turbo for the om352. mith manifoil and everything. (picture) Dont know much about this but I think i can make it fit. any thoughts about this? What i think i need to turbocharge: -Turbo -Manifoil that fits and connect to the turbo -Pipe from turbo to engine air intake -Pipe from air filter to the turbo -oil line from somewhere on the oil filter to the turbo and retur line straight to oil pan -make a custom exhaust ? Is it a huge advantage with intercooler... Mb trac turbo on unimog 416

Need to light up my Euro Corners with Headlights

Hi all, I'm unable to pass inspection due to my euro corners. The problem is that the corner lights do not illuminate with the headlights. The fog lights come on when on a US spec car, the corner lights would. Can anyone help me out with rewiring for the traditional US function of the lights? The corners currently have only 2 pins. Thanks in advance. EDIT: My car is a true grey market euro not a US spec car.

Update- 73 450SL engine bay insulation

After being told from MULTIPLE vendors which included Mercedes Benz themselves. I was able to obtain the engine bay firewall insulation from Pelican Parts for a mere $148 +tax and ZERO shipping charge! I will it within 10 days of the order being placed! These guys were great to work with and his attitude was like, no worries I got you covered! And, he did as he promised! Ted You guys on this forum are the best! Thanks for EVERYTHING that you do!

Instrument Panel Dies and Diagnostics Port Dead

My 2008 E320 Bluetec has developed a serious issue. While driving, the entire instrument panel goes dead, no electric windows, no brake lights, no turn signals, no radio, etc. The engine still runs fine with full power, except that the coolant fan runs continuously at high speed. The transmission also still functions properly. If I stop the engine, I can re-start it and everything is back to normal for anywhere from 2 - 3 minutes to 20 minutes, then everything goes dead again. The almost new... Temperature icon pops up

So, a couple of times last week this popped up on my MFD. Once for a split second, the RED warning by the temp gauge appeared for a few seconds as well. Level is good, mixture is good, system was recently flushed and all new Mercedes coolant (within a month). The message clears after a few minutes and everything seems fine. It wasn't hot, the temp gauge wasn't pegged or even elevated, no codes stored or current when I scan. Hasn't reappeared for several days. what is "Klaus" trying to tell... Temperature icon pops up

Another fun shipment arrived today. These are genuine mercedes squirters. Thanks Euro truck. I will try to document the process of machining the block to accept these. (my block does not have any machine work done to facilitate jets) If anyone needs info off these jets, let me know before they make it to the machine shop. Sprinter 313CDI 200 year engine goes off.

Hello, i am new in the forum and i really need help or ideas for my problem. I read a lot of threads but nothing helped. The engine started going off when i sharply press the gas pedal. It goes off then i start it again and its all good. If i press the pedal smoothly there are no problems but when i sharply press it, goes off. I drove it this way but the problem got bigger. 26 days after my initial post now have the car in my possession safe in my garage. Cost $1600 to have it transported from Ohio to my home in Bothell WA. Got here 5 days later than it was supposed to. Took it out for a couple of short drives, with my wife and my son. Generally it runs very well. Idles rough. The speedo bounces around. Transmission seems very solid. Filled it with gas. It did start to get hot after some stop and go traffic. Never got to... It's mine now, 1975 450SL

Our Cars LOVE to be Driven!

I took my Sweet Tomato to work Monday and Wed (I don't work T,Th,Fr). Came right home Mon. When I started her this morning, she sounded like an angry cat. Sounsed the same when I was finished working today. Nice day today--78F temp, no clouds, etc.--so I took her for an hours drive on interstate and back roads. When I put her in the garage after the drive, she was purring like a kitten. They definitely run better if they are driven--and not just 5 miles to work and back. If you got 'em... 87 300SDL - wont start - ignition

87 300 SDL 265,000 miles. Wont crank at all. Battery is charged and I've confirmed getting 12+ volts to starter. I haven't been working on it, it was running fine thursday - Friday it won't start. Glow plugs cycle properly - have tested all fuses. Have taken starter out and had it checked at parts store- it works just fine. 87 300 SDL 265,000 miles. Wont crank at all. Battery is charged and I've confirmed getting 12+ volts to starter. I haven't been working on it, it was running fine thursday - Friday it won't start.

Glow plugs cycle properly - have tested all fuses. Have taken starter out and had it checked at parts store- it works just fine.

When I turn the key - I can "barely" hear a couple of clicks but only with the hood up. No other sounds - Starter does not engage.

any suggestions.

My girlfriend's 07 Sonata is taken a dive and I'm encouraging her to get W140 as a placeholder car that will fill out the fleet until the market is reasonable again and she can get a used JL Wrangler. I gave her my personal guarantee she'll never be out of a car because she can just drive one of my others if the 140 is ever in need of repairs. I found a nice looking 1997 S320 with 112k miles about an hour drive asking $4,500. Curious if you guys have any thoughts on it or could give me any...
