I feel pretty stupid about this--I took photos a year ago when I removed this section for rust remediation/painting. I'm ready to reinstall, but there is no apparent threaded hole to receive the flat/open end of the shield. The holes in the upper right side of the photo appear to be lightning or drainage holes in the unibody.
