Strange intermittent starting problem...beyond the obvious faulty battery

This X204 just recently started having failed starts that first appeared as obvious battery failure. Had battery tested with two separate load testers at auto stores after full charge. There had been no sign at all of premature battery discharge and charging V is right at 13.8V. The symptom is as follows: Car turns over but started ceases to crank suddenly before engine fires up...all the signs of a loose connection after the battery was ruled out. Tires for E350 Sport Package

I have the 18" AMG Sport Package wheels on my 2009 E350 and had new tires put on the rear. They put on 235/30/R18. I noticed they didn't look right, and remembered that I had bigger tires on the rear. Pretty sure I had 275/35/R18 on the rear, and really liked the ride as well as how they looked. Is the 275/35 the biggest tires I can put on the rear wheels?

Climate Control Vacuum - not the usual "no center vents"

I've searched it to death, and hope that this warrants a new thread. I have a '99 SL500 with some incredibly strange vacuum issues with the climate control system. For a couple of years my car has had climate vacuum issues, when I first bought it the left-side vent would not open or close (always stuck closed, which is strange because this requires vacuum pressure). I found an emergency tire jack on a local Craigslist page for $40 (Canadian, which is like $30 USD) and want it since my car does not have the original. I have a 1985 380 SL. The jack is from a 1984 300TD stamped 123 583 02 15 Bilstein. I've tried to research this but can't seem to find if the jack will work my my 380 (it's in the shop this week so I can't drive it there). Anyone know if this should fit? Here's a photo from the ad. Do I need a water pump?

My air conditioner stopped working, so I got that fixed, then my car started overheating. So when the engine goes over 190 I turn off A/C and open windows, and that usually helps. Today it didn't help, and the car overheated. I tried the trick of turning on the heater, but NO HEAT CAME OUT! I was all set to flush the system and replace the coolant tomorrow, but now I'm wondering if I should replace the water pump while I'm at it. Advice?

Did my second oil change since owning the car, intermittent knocking noise right after starting up car after oil change.

I replaced the oil filter, I emptied the oil from the drain plug and I put everything back and torqued up the plug and filter and added 8 qts of oil, the same 5w40 as usual (Redline). The min/max stick is at halfway and I waited 10 minutes then started the car. Oil pressure reads "3" but engine makes intermittent knocking sound about 15 knocks then silence for a few seconds then knocking again. Mileage is 120,000kms and engine had full prior service history. What's going on?

Replacing 3rd brake light in trunk lid

I am trying to replace the 3rd brake light in the trunk lid of my 2002 CLK55 AMG. The original one is dry rotted and faded. I was able to remove the original one (it broke apart in the process), but I am not able to get the new lens to snap into the housing. It has like 5 or 6 sets of finger clips the squeeze together when you push them in but once you get them in far enough, they spread back open and lock the lens to the light base. Front Bumper - Replacement Help!

Hi - I have a 2002 SL500 and unfortunately bracket the bottom of my front bumper badly that it cannot be repaired. I can't find a replacement anywhere. All I see are duraflex bumpers online and warnings that they are terrible. Is that true? Anyone here used a duraflex bumper that is happy with the finished product? I have a good body shop willing to try and make it work, but I'm concerned it'll look terrible. Any thoughts or advice someone can offer?

C 216 frame/ structural measurements

Hello, I am looking for the factory structural measurements for this chassis. I have a car that needs to go through a structural safety and I am required to have the exact factory numbers to reference our current measurements. No Mercedes dealer will give it to me or they say they don't have it and then when they send me to the certified Mercedes shop those guys say they don't have it because it's in a digital file so they don't know how to give me the numbers. How to test interior mirror functions?

I suspect that a couple of Homelink buttons on my [interior] mirror aren't working: one button, the first works- pressing it results in the transmit LED lighting up; this does not happen when pressing the other two buttons (from left to right they'd be the 2nd and 3rd buttons). I have a spare mirror and would like to test it before I go about doing a swap. R107 fuel filter

I just received fuel filters from Bosch ( 450905177)and Mahle (K38) which are too large to fit the bracket in my 280sl euro. The old filter has no discernable numbers on it but is 4.25" tall and 3" diameter. Does anyone know the correct part number to fit my bracket?

2006 C220 CDI no-crank, no start

A neighbour has asked me to look at his 2006 C220. When you turn the key to the crank position nothing happens. I scanned the car for fault codes and I was able to clear most of them aside from the SRS (airbag) and somehting else (can't remember exactly). I got some live data for the starter motor and there was nothing from terminal 50. Is that what energizes the solenoid on the starter motor? I'm suspecting either a broken/loose connection or the starter motor itself. I'm not gonna load up... 2006 C220 CDI no-crank, no start

Hello, I recently bougth a c300 2009 6-speed. I love the car so far but my key isnt locking or unlocking the drivers door, wipers arent working, blinkers are working( the emergency ligths does work, so its not the bulb.) Ac and drivers window goes down on ita own. I tried plugging the computer to the OBD port and its not working. Its has power but it says no signal. Original Becker Radios

I've been doing some research about the available Becker radios for the W124 in the early 1990's and have found that most of the Becker Europa, Grand Prix and Mexico 2000 series radios are 2 channel radios, usually identified as "2 x 20W" by an orange sticker on the top side of the unit (as shown in the picture below). I'm not an audio, electronics or radio expert by any means, but doesn't this mean it will only produce sound out of 2 speakers?

And because I love the phrase "the most expensive car you can buy is a cheap Mercedes", I bought myself a cheap CL550. The car apparently drove into a snowbank and damaged the air suspension compressor. But when I opened the hood and took a look at the air lines going into the front struts, I saw what looks like Slime tire sealant in the strut wells and also some in one of the air tubes. This... Well I just bought a gla250 and was driving accross the Bay Bridge 7/23 and that amber light INSIDE the driver's rear view mirror came on.

It is not the ambient lights under the mirror as most respoders here have mistaken. It is inside the mirror at the bottom of the glass surface.

I have no idea what it is for.

Trunk only open with key

Lock System

I have a 1999 ML320. I have had the problem of using fob when I lock car the doors would lock unlock and relock. This has gone on for awhile. If big problem I would use lock button in vehicle to lock and lock drivers door by hand or with key. As of the last couple of days the back door on drivers side will not lock. I cannot lock by hand either. The lock on hatch has not worked for years. What needs to be tested or replaced? Is it something I can do? Thanks

1997 C280 Passenger Seat Motor Part #?

Hello Benz Heads, Long time lurker. Many thanks to many solid threads that have helps these past years. I'm asking because I lost the main thread regarding Failed Passenger seat moving back and front. I bought a replacement relay only to find out that my relay is "Off white" with 6 normal prongs. CLK 350 (2006) Jolts, High RPM & shift down

Hi guys I have a CLK 350 2006 W209 Coupe I am facing an issue while driving on highways and in city whenever I am driving my car shifts down one or two gears and gives me a high RPM and then shifts back to its normal gear i was driving on i.e I am driving on 6th gear on a highway at 120 km/h suddenly there will be a jolt RPM will go upto 5000 or 6000 taking the gear into 4th or 5th and then shift back into 6th gear. I am not sure what to do and how to solve this issue. Kindly help.

2005 CLK500 Cab shifter won't go past neutral from drive...read several older posts, and want to clear up some questions

Hello all, As the subject says, our new to us 2005 CLK500 has developed this behavior: Starts up, goes into reverse, goes into drive without issue. When shifting back to park or reverse, the shifter hits a gate between neutral and reverse. Taking my foot off the brake momentarily 'lifts the gate' and I can shift into reverse or park Turning the key off, also lifts the gate, and allows the shift. Display on the dash shows the proper gear, no malfunction indicated. Electric seat not working...

HI, My CLK 320 electric seat on the driver side is not functioning, the forward and backward movement is not working but the back rest and the head rest works perfectly. Checked throttle switch - continuity & resistance seem good Checked for vacuum leaks. All hoses & connectors in very good order. No change in idle when spraying everywhere with carb cleaner I pulled the connector to ICV (when engine warmed up at 80C). What is the meaning of "Charge" bar on the fuel consumption screen?

What is the meaning of the "Charge" indicator that is displayed on the fuel consumption screen? It shows a green progress bar when braking like if the battery was being recharged when breaking. That would make sense on an hybrid vehicle but not on the GLS. I did not find anything about this in the owner manual.

CLA250 4Matic M270 Timing Chain Tensioner

Does anyone know for the M270 engine after replacing its Timing Chain Tensioner 270-052-14-00 if there is any further step that has to be done to facilitate the tensioner to unlock/release. I know some other models have to be clocked counterclockwise I believe while the cam is held to cause the chain to activate the tensioner but the Mercedes Service documentation I have does not show any further step like that after replacing it and I don't find anything anywhere that says its required for... Hello! My vito w638 112cdi -02 has a problem and it's been standing for about a year now. It all started when i was towing a big caravan that was a bit to much for the engine. It ran and ran at full throttle for about 32 miles and then it started sounding like jakebraking in downhills. Then completely died and started knocking horribly. I have now changed 2 injectors, fuel filter, new o-rings and stretchbolts to 2/4 injectors. Doesn't knock anymore but now it cuts out and dies at... Connecting Upper Radiator Hose to radiator

Is there a trick to getting the hose to seat far enough in so that the wire clip slides in the groove on the radiator fitting. I had it off and on several times with no problems. Now it won't go far enough on to let the clip fit in the groove. I am about to have a stroke with this whole radiator fan replacement

I've been having some charging gremlins...frequent shutdown of electrical consumers, then red warning lights etc. Did some basic troubleshooting and found a dead aux battery (it was 5+ years old), a good main battery. I've done some live data acquisition and noted the voltage at terminal 30 to be 11.45 to 11.67 volts, and the reported charging current to be under 1A. Both seem troubling if they mean what I think they do. I'm leaning toward a bad alternator / voltage regulator. Any... Circuit 30 voltage?

W203 c32 amg Shifter linkage bushing at transmission is missing

Hi I have looked through several posts on the forum and the internet in general and can't seem to find a conclusive answer. I recently purchased a 2004 c32 and had an inspection done by mercedes they found that the shifter bushing at the transmission is missing the quote was 260. From what I have found online this seems like a manageable fix however if anyone has the correct part for the bushing and the metal clasp that secures it that would be appreciated. Every year I take it out for a couple of days with the intention of fully restoring. Oh well, I'm rambling. The battery is draining at the rate of 4.11. I've tested the fuses by disconnecting the negative terminal and connecting a multimeter to the post and the terminal...then pulling all the fuses. There was no droppage with the fuses... Hi All, When I bought my W211 E55 AMG Wagon in 2021 it had a leaking reservoir seal and the steering was a bit heavy (part of the deal why it was so cheap). I wanted to fix this myself, some mistakes were made which probably introduced air in the system I assume, this is what has been done: PS reservoir was replaced PS fluid was replace with Fuchs Titan CHF11s Speed sensitive steering sensor was replaced twice, one time with Chinese cheap part, second time with German brand... New old car, new forum member

I bought a 98 C250 TD yesterday, I'm very pleased with it so far, the most comfortable relaxed drive I've experienced. I plan to twin tank it once I've got a bit more used to it. I get free clean used veg oil locally & have successfully done a couple of previous veg conversions, I enjoy this sort of challenge.

Beautiful anthracite gray on red '73 450SL, last year of the euro bumpers in America. Excellent shape and well kept/serviced. Absolutely no rust. Car was originally sold in Houston. Second owner lived in Naples, Fl. We are the third owners and have owned it for 2 years, bought it in June '21 as a pandemic project. Need to sell as we will be moving out of the country soon. Internal rear view mirror

My rear view mirror has become unstuck fallen off and is now hanging on the cable. Can anyone please recommend the appropriate adhesive/apoxy to use to reattach it. I have tried various adhesive pads and adhesive (from Halfords) but nothing has worked, the mirror is quite heavy. The original adhesive was an apoxy type. Also there was a clear gel at the centre integral to the mirror base which I would like to replace (photochromatic) does anyone know where I can get that? Cheers Mike

Been a Porsche person all my life and finally getting my first MB (2023 GLS 450). Grateful this community exists because I know nothing about Benzs. Dumb question to start - usually Porsche dealers (even in Covid) gave 4% discounts off of MSRP. Anyone know what they are now for MBS (I'm in Florida)?

Road Trip / Shake Down

Just got home from a week away, drove about 1200 miles. Mostly highway driving (1000 miles) and then a bunch of in-town traffic. Averaged about 28 mpg on the first 500 mile leg, but on the return leg, we had terrible traffic on I-95, with lots of slow miles, and mileage dropped to about 26 mpg. In town was awful due to a lot of short trips and lots of stop and go: 16 mpg. The car has developed a very light shake that comes and goes, starts at about 40 mph. It is very noticeable on the... Hope I did this right I'm Brad just got a ml55 amg and well that's what brought me here as well as will slowly reveal why I don't like other people working on my vehicles lol.
