I have a 2009 SLK with the 3.5L engine. 121,000 miles on odometer and I wonder what are my chances of 200,000+ before major engine rebuild. Meticulous service; oil changes with Mobil One 40/5.California car.

Light bulb for climate control

Picked up a new pair of light bulbs for the climate control panel from my local dealer yesterday. I got 0,4W bulbs but compared with the rest of the instrument lighting this section is now quite dark. Is 0.4W the correct bulbs here?

Multimedia upgrade for 08 ML550

I am thinking of changing the original stereo system to a modern Multimedia system. What is a good system that will work with my car? I want to be able to hook up the backup camera, and steering controls to the new system. The new system needs to work well with Andriod. Hello! I am new to benzworld, but have looked over the forum in the past to research for other projects.. I recently acquired a Mercedes 230s (as part of a trade deal for a different project). And I'm really psyched about this new addition!! The car has just the straight 6 engine, but the 'selling point' (for me) was the four-speed manual (four on the floor) transmission. this is where I have some questions!! 1998 c280 vacuum ac elements leaking

Hi everyone, I've been having trouble with a check engine light which is being caused by leaking vacuum elements. I can hear a high and low pitch whistle coming from the dashboard depending on engine rpm and whether the ac is on or off. My mechanic quoted Me around 1800 to replace the elements inside the dash. My mechanic also told me that when he plugged off the vacuum to ac the fault code cleared and the check engine light went off. Analysing Exhaust Gas

I would like to be able to analyze my exhaust to see how rich it is and if adjustments I make are going in the right direction, but I am stuck on what to do. It seems all modern solutions use heated O2 sensors that are fragile and finnicky. I am not keen on the idea of having a hole cut in my exhaust, even though I know they are removable, so am looking for a temporary solution. OK, my free 450SL is in the shop having everything that can be wrong underneath related to the suspension, the mounts, the drive train (excluding transmission), the brakes, the brake lines, the fuel lines, the fuel pump, well you get the idea..., fixed. This is phase 1. Phase 2 was supposed to be cooling and exhaust systems but while the car was waiting for its date with the shop it made a giant puddle of trans fluid on my garage floor. Paint Brake Calipers - Good or bad idea?

All the parts and pieces coming for brake system overhaul. Pads, rotors, rebuild kits for calipers, fluid... even emergency brake rebuild kit. Thinking about painting the calipers while the ole girl is taken apart. No need for red/green/blue... since the rims cover them up well. High temperature gloss black? May shed the brake dust easier... or at least clean easier.

Brake Booster - Gone bad?

My 1981 300SD had a simple brake pad job (DIY of course) but I decided to change the fluid as well. Upon refill and pressure-bleeding all four wheels, I cannot get a hard pedal. Thought it was the master cylinder, so changed that 40 year old cylinder out. STILL cannot get a hard pedal (engine shut off). Is my power booster also shot? Any feedback on how to accurately diagnose that issue is much appreciated!

280 SE Drier / receiver part number

Hello all, I'm chasing a new drier for a 1976 280SE. It has the drier on the Right side of the condenser and I believe that is the opposite to the V8's. I am having a difficult time locating one, although if I had a part number that would help a lot. Or maybe someone knows who stocks these. Cheers

Hello, I just purchased Friday, a 1995 E320 SE with a 3.2 L engine, 136 K miles. Hello all, New to the site and the brand. Bought my first MB about 6 months ago and I get it. I've come from Audi where customizing the aesthetics and minor operational upgrades are easily DIY. I'm finding this is not the case with MB. I added some directional airflow fins to the front and the sensors were blowing up that I had to rip them off. M110 Valve Adjustment

Quite a simple task. The M110 uses solid lifters so a valve adjustment/check needs to be done every 10000 miles. The valves have a tendency of tightening up. Any adjustments are usually to loosen the valve. You need a feeler gauge, the 17mm valve adjustment wrench MB p/n 110589010100 a 27mm socket on a power bar and maybe a new valve cover gasket kit. My gasket is fairly new, so I re-used it. Remove ignition wires and the valve cover.
Quite a simple task.

Coolant leak

So I've got my inherited 1986 190D 2.5 outside now as we're in the middle of a move. Ever since the temperature has gotten colder I've noticed an ever increasing puddle under the car where I have parked it. I have only driven the car maybe 3-4 times this fall and have wanted to ask the community if anyone else has noticed a coolant leak from a small plastic plug on the drivers side rear of the radiator. ABS Issue

Hi everyone. I'm having an issue with my 2003 ML350 and will welcome any advice. Some days ago I was driving my car at night and the serpentine belt broke. Since I was very close to my home, I drove back to my house and left the car there to be fixed the next day. How long are your shocks and bushing lasting?

Hello How long are your front/rear shocks lasting? What about control arm bushings. Front end is feeling a bit loose and not as solid sounding when going over bumps but on inspection nothing is broken or obviously worn. Are you replacing complete A arms or just bushings? Thanks

2001 CL500 - Fuse box... missing (?) [SOLVED]

Hello, Something extremely weird is going on in my CL500 (C215/2001/USA MARKET VERSION). I wanted to change the front cigar lighter fuse because it has blown, preventing my dash cam from working. Looked up the fuse boxes' location online and the dashboard one is NOT present. (?) Checked both the left and right side of the vent panel where it is supposed to be. Do you guys have any idea or what's going on? Could it somehow be moved somewhere else by owners before me? I also took out... 2001 CL500 - Fuse box... missing (?) [SOLVED]

I think my last post was in the wrong forum. Here is what I asked in the other W203 forum, I decided I would start checking out some tires online since the tread on mine are starting to get to unsafe levels. Any rate I have the 04 c230 sedan sport. According to every tire website the fronts should be :225 45 17, and rear 245 40 17. Although I just checked mine out and the front and back are 225 45 17. I checked my door jam and owners manual and sure enough it just says 225 45 17 and... Tire size for 2004 C230 K

Source for brake light holder?

Hi, I have a R170 SLK 230 from 1999. My partner very kindly tried replacing my offside brake light bulb...but was really struggling to get it to stay in position...and somehow has managed to mislay both the holder and the bulb! I've tried taking flash photographs to see if it's fallen down the big gap behind the housing as my arm won't stretch quite that far, but there's no sign of it. Please could someone let me know where I can source a replacement holder and if possible... Source for brake light holder?

M112 belt tensioner pulley vibration

The belt tensioner pulley on my S350 2004 is vibrating more than expected: What do you think? Should I replace just the pulley or the entire tensioner? Is the tensioner at fault or perhaps some other pulley is introducing resistance that makes the belt tensioner to vibrate?

Down to Bare Metal Repaint Advice.

1984 production Euro 280CE 4-speed that spent its entire life until recently baking in the hot Texas sun, which has taken a serious toll on the paint. Stopped at my local body shop who has done total repaints for me on a 1969 Triumph TR6 and a 1985 BMW E30 and they said the car would have to go down to bare metal, which is what I assumed. They said that the whole car would be sanded down to bare metal and then epoxied and painted, with lots of sanding and blocking in the process. The Good... Down to Bare Metal Repaint Advice.

Matching shocks to lowering springs – Koni Classic / Special D

A question for the experts amongst us. Koni have an adjustable shock absorber for the R107. Adjustable off the car, three settings I think, FIRM – STANDARD – SOFT. I am thinking of mating a set these with some lowering springs, possibly the Carobu ones (who also sell the shocks). Is there an advantage to this or would the regular Bilstein ones be fine with a shorter, firmer spring? picking up '12 SL550 in a few days - inspection and misc questions

I'm picking up a 2012 with 35k miles later this week and driving about 900 miles home. The car has an amazing service history, clean Carfax etc. I'm a pretty advanced DIY guy with a lift (just did an engine swap in my Toyota Highlander last week). I have an Audi A8 and A4 which I maintain so I'll do 100% of the maintenance once I get it home - but it needs to make it first In terms of inspection, what are the top 3-4 things you would check? It just had an oil change, tires and brakes... picking up '12 SL550 in a few days - inspection and misc questions

I bought a 2009 ML320 Bluetec in the spring and have really enjoyed it (and it tows like a champ). When I got it, it would sometimes go into limp mode and I discovered that it was due to issues with the swirl flaps or swirl flap motor. I did the resistor bypass and it worked like a charm - solid, consistent performance and no more limp mode. The problem is that I now have perpetual codes for P2004 and P2005 telling me that my swirl flaps are stuck open (I know - that's what I wanted) and... Get a basic OBD2 interface/scanner or something more powerful?

Need help establishing value 1991 300SL 60K miles with top hydraulics failure

I'm considering selling the 1991 300SL I've owned for 18 yrs since I use it so seldom. It's garage kept and in excellent condition except one of the hydraulic cylinders for the top leaked a couple years ago so automatic top can no longer be used. I've read about Top Hydraulics, but not up to the task of removing cylinders myself (58 yr old female w/out any mechanical ability). Hey, driving a 2020 GLB 220d 4matic for almost a year. I was waiting over 8 months for that new car and.. disappointed. Issues so far: whistling windshield - replaced, factory fault, they have a service bulletin 4matic failed, fixed, been told it's software issue left rear door were closing so badly, need to use more force, fixed all assistent systems failed - like precrash, lane assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic head lights (replaced some eletronics)... GLB - piece of a crap

Rattling roof torture

I've searched fairy extensively physically and on the forums to find an answer to this. My beloved CLK cab. seems to have developed a rattle from what I've narrowed down to be the soft top when I go over bumps. Having searched, a lot of people seem to have rattles from the front locking mechanism but mine is from the back, I've narrowed it down to around the rear window area or behind the rear seats. Comfort Mode Sport Mode Difference?

I usually drive in Sport mode for a "sportier" feel of the car and a better acceleration (I think). However, I notice that comfort mode isn't all that much different. However, I heard that the difference between comfort mode and sports mode is that comfort mode accelerates from second gear and therefore, has a smoother, more subtle acceleration and also saves gas. I may be wrong, someone please clarify me on this. Thanks

Pump like noise

Hi forumers, My c207 developed a "buda buda buda buda" or pumping like noise when on idle after driving. This noise is aggravated when the car is reversing even on a slightly steep slope. Dealership have even changed the fuel pump and charcoal canister but it was no use. I am attaching a video for you to hear and give me any ideas as to what to look for. Replacing Flywheel Bolts

The flywheel on my 83' 240D (manual) has been resurfaced and ready to reinstall. I'm having difficulty finding new flywheel bolts for a manual transmission. Either the parts companies don't state the difference (Pelican Parts) or they only have bolts for an automatic transmission an not a manual (Auto Hausaz). How important is it that I replace these bolts? Will I be OK if use my existing bolts, torque to specs and us thread lock? thanks, Bryan (bbambrough)

Cant figure this one out :-(

Here's a snippet. Car is starting great, idling great. But drive a few miles and then it surges, lopes, coughs and sputters - but never stalls - at idle. I tried attaching a clip but the forum won't allow mp4's.

Hello

after the car didn't start for more than 1 month I charged my battery and the car was up and running. only I have some problems with the check battery light on and pre safe mode, some electrical problems also appear like after I locked the door with the remote I couldn't open it again with the remote I had to do it manually and my twilight light was off. can anyone help

Excessive Engine Vibration

It's 40 degrees here in Virginia I have two glow plugs non functional at this time 280K + miles strong motor in my opinion Upon start up this evening I have excessive vibration originating from the motor throughout the entire vehicle when driving a tad less but shaking entire car any insight, direction or re-direction or related experiences is appreciated Cheers

Help! Unknown 1989 190e 2.6 Engine issues

The car starts and runs fine but when idle it bounces to low rpm but no check engine light. I replaced the fuel pumps and filter- no changes, replaced idle air controller spark plugs and ignition wires- no changes, but when taking out the ovp relay the car now jumps to high rpm and flashes the check engine light for just a second. It fixed the first issue of the car idling high and dipping low but now the car idles low and bounces high. The engine also seems to have a sputter that only... Help! R107 Honeymoon Over > Car won’t start !!!

Well that didn't take long !!! LOL Car was running great up until yesterday then on a nice local drive it does while pulling away from a stop light the car just died. No warning and gas gauge showed somewhere between 1/4 or just over a tank. Figured I must have a dodgy fuel level float and filled up With another 4 gallons of premium and tried to turn over. No dice, just spins but doesn't catch. A little bit of startfluid down the intake and it does run so I know it's fuel delivery... R107 Honeymoon Over > Car won't start !!!

1985 SL280 Blinker Hell

Hi Friends! The blinker situation on our 85 280SL is driving me batty 2 nights ago all of the blinkers worked except the passenger side indicator next to the headlight. The passenger side bumper mounted blinker and the rear blinker worked fine. The drivers side all 3 work as they should. 2001 ML55 AMG Stock Exhaust Pipe Sizes

I am working on my 2001 ML55 AMG exhaust. The decorative chrome exhaust tip rotted away from the muffler. The muffler pipe and the exhaust tip are in good shape. All that rotted away was about two inches of the muffler pipe on the passenger side. The driver's side is still solid. The muffler pipe appears to have an outside diameter of 2 1/2 inches. Drivers window wont wind up or down

Hi, I've been having a problem with my 2010 GL350 Bluetec engine. When it gets a bit cold the engine will go entire start cycle with no start, sometimes it takes 3 cycle sometimes it takes 10. Just bought a 1991 500 SL, 26k miles. Seems to have been well taken care of. A few days after I got it, the CEL came on. The car idles a bit weird, and often takes a few tries to turn over after it's been driven for a while. I took the car to a mechanic who worked on the car under the previous owner. Chain Guard Inspection Result

In different thread dewispew wrote that he purchased a cheap endoscope to see if his new 380 had a double chain. In addition to confirming the he had a double, the pics showed a nice clean tan chain guide. Hi all! so my 1991 500SL now has 38K miles, drove it last week and noticed fuel leaking on the ground under pumps location, still need to inspect under there once I remove cover, my 91 W124 did the same thing and turned out to be leaking fuel pump, the weak link on these types of pumps is the plastic at electrical terminals , they develop cracks and leak. I have loved my ownership of my current 1999 R129 but the cosmetic issues are starting to add up. It needs a new door panel and bumper and both to be painted, it needs a new soft top and probably needs reupholstered seats. All of those things aren't essential to driving the car and it will make a great car for someone who is just wanting a fun sports car and can overlook all that. Why is the GTR so heavy?
