After 16 years and 307,000 miles, I wanted to replace the NAV screen on my 2004 330ci. It was scratched and had lots of dead pixels. Thought about going with a Dynavin or Eonon unit, but wanted to keep the stock appearance.
The LCD panel in the e46 MkIV NAV is the Sharp LQ065T9BR53U. Here are the dead pixels I was seeing:

I purchased a replacement "53U" screen from ELECOK in China. The LCD screen arrived within a week (fast!), I installed it, and upon rebooting the NAV I was greeted with this washed-out, colorless screen image:

ELECOK customer service set up a return for me and I returned the faulty panel.
I then found the site for German Audio Tech in Long Beach, CA. I purchased their replacement screen, which is the Sharp LQ065T9BR54U.
I am here to report that the Sharp "54U" screen will work as the E46 MkIV NAV screen replacement. There has been speculation that the "54U" would not have the proper viewing angle as the OEM "53U" LCD screen.
Here are photos of my installed "54U" screen, taken from the drivers seat:

No more dead pixels! And the screen is scratch-free and has an antireflective coating on it. I will clean it very carefully going forward!
The "54U" screen from German Audio Tech was $175. The replacement process is not difficult if you work slowly and methodically. Lots of small screws to keep track of during disassembly.
Hoping this post will help others that might want to attempt their own NAV screen replacement.
