Bleeding SLS valve

I've seen the procedure for bleeding the earlier generation of SLS valves with the nipple on the side, but the later models have it on top (which seems odd, like it's harder to get to and can just run all over the place). Would I just connect a clear plastic hose on it and curve it downward into a container? And, what side ID hose?
