2007 E280 CDI - Unable to measure oil levels

Good Afternoon All, I have finally been able to move into an E class with what I see has the last of the designs which appeal to me. My challenge is that after checking and detailing the car, I am unable to get an engine oil level reading with the display method. Yes I have followed the instructions in the manual as well and there is just nothing about oil ! Anyone had this before ? Cheers and Happy NY to all and safe passage into 2021.
