W124 Steering Lock - Disable/Bypass?

So far Ive owned two W124s. Worried about failure of the ignition key cylinder or the steering lock and the car getting stranded. Want to either disable or bypass the steering wheel lock mechanism. Replacement of ignition key cylinder is fairly straightforward. Thank you BenzWorld and YouTube. Suppose there is a failure of the either the ignition key cylinder or the steering lock out on the road.
