M272 intake manifold flaps - how to diagnose

I was doing some basic maintenance on the vehicle with the ongoing shutdown and it had me wondering, how do I know that the intake manifold flaps on my car need to be replaced? The car accelerates perfectly fine and runs great. Gets me 22-23mpg going about 80mph. I might not have used the right words to search in the forum.
