No warning sound when key off and headlight still on

Hi good morning everybody, My W210 E-class used to issue a warning sound when I key off but forget to turn off the headlight. Recently there is no such warning sound and eventually one day my wife forgot to turn off the headlight and left, the next day the battery was totally drained and I had to use other car to bring it back. Anyone had this issure? and how to solve it? Thank you for any valueable information. peter
