Using Wood Blocks When Lifting Car?

Hi guys, I bought a 5 ton bottle jack and 4x 3 ton stands for my W140 a month ago but have yet to use them - gonna do a coolant flush this week. My question today since I do like to baby my stuff in every sense of the word; is it safe to put wood blocks between the jack / jackstands and car to prevent "damage" to the chassis that may cause rust or whatever down the line? Of course I will be jacking in the proper spots so by damage I don't mean punching through the floorboard. I ask... Using Wood Blocks When Lifting Car?
