Replacing/ Repairing 1989 300SE radio

I just got a 1989 300SE. The previous owner had somehow managed to activate the anti-theft system on the radio, as it is showing all dashes across the display no matter what I do. Also, the powered antenna won't extend. First, is there anything I can do to repair the stock radio before replacing it? I would prefer to keep it as that is likely the most cost effective, and already have a FM transmitter. Is the broken radio causing the antenna to not extend? Second, I have read a little about...
