I bought a 2009 e350 literally yesterday and that code has no showed. I have absolutely no knowledge on the engine (yet) but am familiar with German cars in general. I had purchased the 09 since it fixed the balance shaft/sprocket issue, but it seems my code says there is something wrong with timing.
I figured I'd have a little more time to figure out the engine before having problems, but it seems I got unlucky. Did I get scammed? Maybe, but the codes haven't been reset for 370 miles so it...
