EGR switch over valve open

Hello to all, I have a 1991 500SL it has a socket #3 and 16 flash code witch says EGR switch over valve open or short I've replaced both I'm lead to believe one is for the air pump, Anyway I've checked both and they are operational I've traced the wires as good as I could, since I can't find the other end I can't check for a short! In my research I've found info on a relay switch.....can anyone help me locate this or is it combined with the MAS? any help would be highly appreciated as... EGR switch over valve open
