Correct Front Spring Compressor Tool Usage

I have a European model 280E that I'm trying to replace lower ball joints and, while I'm at it, front springs to correct sag. I didn't spend 16x the price for an OEM spring compressor (if it's even still available) because after reading up on experiences here, the only issue I thought I'd have with getting one of the cheaper alternatives (similar to the 8milelake versions for sale on Amazon and ebay) is that I'd have to enlarge the hole in the spring perch.
