2009 R350 no-start condition with "remove key" message.

Went to start the R350 after leaving an appointment. Seemed like the starter engaged for half a second and then nothing. I swear I saw a little puff of smoke drift out from the front passenger side of the car outside, but it was drizzling outside and it could have been steam or something else. Popped the hood and swear I could smell a faint electrical odor.... but you know how your mind can play tricks. Anyhow, had to get it towed home.
