Sunroof won't move but I hear the motor spinning

So the sunroof in this 2010 C300 just stays in place when you push the open/close button. However, for all 4 positions, Up, down, open and close, I can hear the motor turn and then stop as if the roof reached the open, up, down or closed position the button tells it to do. I'm thinking this is a cable issue and I saw somewhere that someone put a metal washer on a gear at the motor to replace a factory plastic one that wears out and moves the gear from engaging with the motor.
