Do my tires need to be staggered?

Hi All I checcked the forum and did not find the answer i was looking for. Sorry if this has been answered before. I have 2011 C300 4matic and I have the staggered tire set up of 225/45/17 front and the 245/40/17 in the rear. My question is do they have to be staggered? Can i just put either size all the way around or will it impact the transmission due to different rotation per mile? Thanks
