Remote Key Fob unlocks but does not lock car properly

2000 SL500 Sport - Remote keyfob unlocks car as designed with no issue. The problem is remote keyfob will not lock the doors properly. Lights flash but neither door will lock with remote. Both doors lock and unlock as designed when in car with manual dashboard rocker button/switch.
