Install process for differential split boot on 1954 300b

Hi, Keen to get experienced feedback and experiences with this from any members - need a bit of advice. Purchased new boots of the split type with 4 bolts holding the boot closed. Fitted the boots with the split bolt area at horizontal position (as advised to guard against overly flexing the bolted area to accommodate axle moving up and down). This places the bolted area of the split boot at the same level as the oil level and it leaks! I feel inclined to move the bolted section to 12.00...
