I have got 92 MB R129 300SL-24 around 6 months. I noticed that my fifth gear was humming. Last week when I drove back home it didn't change to the 5th gear. But I needed to drive back home around 100 km. I kept the engine not exceed 3000 rpm. Then the next day I drove around neighborhood, the transmission didnt shift at all. I need to go to the mechanic and he said I lost my transmission.
He said it might be complicated to trace back why it didn't change to 5th gear and more parts...
