C300 FUEL LEAK - WARRANTY QUESTION

We have a 2010 C300 4Matic with a leaking fuel tank. Vehicle has 86k and dealer has indicated the fuel tank replacement is covered under emissions warranty. Was also informed that there is corrosion on components that need to be disturbed in order to replace the tank. Was told that damage caused during replacement of the tank would not be covered and could run as much as $4800.00!
