Correct procedure for adjusting timing on a 380 SL

I have tried to search but have not found what I was looking for. I have recently changed timing chain, plugs, wires, rotor and cap. I would now like to check the ignition timing on my 1982 380 SL (USA version). Engine has been running fine, but I really don't have a benchmark and bought a timing light to check.
