300 CE Cabriolet - Active Bass

Hi, I just got a 1992 300 cabriolet with the option 814 - active bass. There is now an awful semi modern Pioneer head unit installed with lights flashing in varous colours and only the left dash speaker is working. Do i need to try and get hold of an original Becker 2000 unit to get the active bass speakers to work or can the actve bass amplifier be connected to another unit without advanced electrical skills?
