99 SL500R Dash Lights & Knob Beside Headlight Switch

I just purchased a 1999 SL500R with 50k on it. The car is in great shape. I have read the owners manual and researched for hours and cannot find what this switch is or does. Can anyone tell what this is? It is a dual selector knob.
