After 400,000 miles, the speedometer on my 1982 280GE was jumping, clicking and burring - if that is a sound - and the odometer had stopped working. Removal is very easy, and I took it to Robinson Instruments in Onehunga, Auckland, New Zealand, a specialist in rebuilding instruments, notably VDO. It was ready five days later and the total bill, including 15% tax was NZ$291 (US$166).
