Metal or plastic bonnet badge?

Hi all, I bit of a head scratcher which I hope we can collectively figure out. Long story short, I'm trying to determine when Mercedes replaced the metal bonnet badge A1078170016 (first pic below) with plastic / aluminum successor A1078800088 (second pic)? Both have slightly different design, with the earlier metal type being flatter, and the reason I'm facing this dilemma is because I wonder which one is period correct for my 1979 Eleanor 🙂 [ATTACH type="full"...
