2000 CLK430 Steering From Wheel Wobble

Little used 2000 clk430 with 99000 miles. Front wheel wobble over 30-40 mph, hard pull to the left at all speeds. Local repair shop did the alignment only and said that the car will need a "front end", about $1500. No idea what that means. Which parts of the suspension are usually replaced at 100k? Would love to know common causes and progressive fix strategy. Would one of you wise men point me toward an instructional or previous thread? Have searched and come up empty.
