Fuel meter gauge won’t reset after full tank.

Hi, I have a clk 200 k c209 2002. I have a problem with the fuel gauge. When the gauge go down to low fuel, (spare tank light lit) it doesn't mater if I fill it up. The gauge won't move. But hers the fun part. If I remove the negative cable on the battery and put it back, the gauge shows the right amount again. This only happens when the light go on for spare tank. Not if I fill it up before the light goes on. I'm leaning on a bad relay that won't reset the gauge? But I would appreciate any... Fuel meter gauge won't reset after full tank.
