This is an info post, as I was able to solve the problem, but wanted to put it up here in case someone else has this problem. My car, 1984 380sl starts right up but will not go to warm-up idle. Digging into the schematics, I found that one possible cause could be a bad oil temperature switch located near the oil filter.
