Soft-top Locking Cylinder - DIY rebuild possible?

Hello everyone, 2004 CLK500 Cabrio I have a slightly leaky locking cylinder. (A2098001172) I have come across a few posts on the web showing that the older type cylinders can be opened by either drilling or notching the top of the cylinder to get to the retaining ring/clip. Anyone ever given this a go on the w209 type cylinder? I should be able to source replacement seals here without too much fuss. Mercedes wants R9500.00 (~$660) for a new one, and it would need to be ordered... Soft-top Locking Cylinder - DIY rebuild possible?
