Stop car too low

I got the stop car too low msg on my 05 e500 4matic sedan. Went home and measured the height - 6.5" in front. 4" in the rear, both sides. Is it unusual for both sides to go down at exactly the same moment? Is this a good clue to the exact problem? Are Arnott shocks the way to go? I rebuilt this car from a total for my wife (she loves looking like a rich bitch which she ain't) 12 years ago so I'm a fair shade tree mechanic. I changed spark plugs (16) a month ago.
