Instrument cluster diagnostic or built in self test?

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has heard of a built-in self-test feature for the early W210 instrument clusters? For the early W140 and R129, the centre knob had a special feature which would put the set into a self-test mode and allow the needles to set to either 1/4, 1/2, or 3/4 levels in order to diagnose stepper motor functionality. It required no tool input, and was part of the sets functionality, similar to the climate control self-test feature. I have not been able... Instrument cluster diagnostic or built in self test?
