I have a E220D 2017 (premium plus if that affects car play) and use the original apple lightning cable
The CarPlay is not that reliable, for example if I start the car plug it in and reverse the starting apple car play gets cancelled by the reverse camera playback and then takes another minute to get CarPlay or sometimes I have to replug it completely
Other occasions I have to turn the engine off lock the car unlock the car and start the dashboard for it to recognise my phone is connected...
