M113 Oil Pump Failure?

Hey gang, So, I've got a 2004 S430 with horrible, awful, terrible top-end noise. All the time, from first startup to no matter how long I run it. In doing some diagnosis, it does have the proper amount of oil in it, however, I took the oil filter out, and it's... clean. Perfectly dry and white, looks like it just came out of the box. I'm assuming this means that oil is not being circulated around the engine, explaining the horrible top-end noise. What would be the first steps to look... M113 Oil Pump Failure?
