Installing Blower Housing Clips

I have managed to get the six outside ones on. I am now struggling with one that grasps the center of the motor and hold it in place (the clip holder on the other side of the housing is long gone). This appears to be the critical one as without it the motor can wiggle around and hit the housing. How in the hell is this done? I am using needle-nose pliers but no matter how much effort I apply with two hands I just cannot spread the clip apart enough. Meanwhile the tips of the pliers slip too...
