Can't Re-install Door Handle..

Hello All! I recently removed the front exterior passenger door handle from my 2017 E300, and now can't seem to re-install it! It seems like there is a metal clip on the interior of the door where the handle sits that should slide towards the outside of the car so I can push the handle in behind it. However, that metal piece is stuck in its back position and I'm not sure how to get it forward again so I can reinstall the handle. Anyone have this issue and know how to resolve? Thanks! Sam
