Biodegradable wiring

I thought 1995 was the last year of the biodegradable wiring. I went to change the chaffing sheathing on the wire going to the oil pressure sender and it crumbled into a million pieces. and revealed about 20% of the insulation missing. The oil level and alternator excitation were the same way. My wiring harness is from a 1996 SL600, but the production date was November of 1995.
